Rockets Send David Andersen To Toronto Raptors

I'll make this brief.

David Andersen can do one thing effectively: hit the turnaround jump shot. He is amazing at it. But that's it. Literally, there's nothing else.

Andersen was never going to find time with Luis Scola, Patrick Patterson, Brad Miller and Chuck Hayes in tow. His absence gives the Rockets more roster flexibility (could add a third PG to the 15-man roster?) and earns them a second-round pick as a bonus. We've seen what the Rockets can do with those.

Simple move, but a nice one.

Actually Andersen can hit the NBA three, or was showing real signs of it before his back went out.

He’s an NBA player, if not an NBA star. I wish him well. Toronto’s 2nd rounder could be very nice, seeing what Sacramento and LA got with those, as well as what we have gotten.

I wouldnt say Anderson is a star

but i think he could have easily become a very good role player.
Towards the end he was figuring things out. Wish him the best.

Feigen said it’s the Clippers’ 2015 pick.

And since the Clippers will probably still suck in 2015, that’s pretty good.

by Only_A_Lad on Jul 28, 2010 5:32 PM CDT up reply actions

The Raptors will only get this pick from the Clippers if it’s from 51 – 55. Otherwise they get nothing.

I didn't - only saying he's good enough for the NBA

I'm a little bummed he didn't do better in his time here.

Here’s hoping Toronto provides a better environment for him.

by DribbleHooper on Jul 28, 2010 5:14 PM CDT reply actions

I hope he becomes a starter at some point

I really want to see him do well. He was adjusting to the NBA quite nicely before his injury last year.

LMAO

Both players’ faces are priceless in that picture..

Good luck to andersen.. Toronto is really shoring up that viscous defense

by erbarnnaw on Jul 28, 2010 5:31 PM CDT reply actions

is it really for 2015

I have no doubt that the clippers will suck then but that seems like really freakin far off…

will the Clippers be even around then? I mean come on, this was the team considering signing TMac. With locker room killing decisions like that maybe the players just revolt and kill the owner before 2015 then were are we.

if the Mayans were right this pick means jack shit. =P

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

Oh Great, Now he'll never learn how to play defense

Big Dave was actually pretty useful whenever he plays, just guarded the paint like a revolving door

Cant say we didnt see this coming, but maybe he’ll beat out Solomon Alabi?

he did have that game against the Lakers last year...

Where he scored 19 points I bleieve, including that big 3.

There’s that, and the game he gave up three and-1s in a row. IN A ROW.

So yeah, don’t know how I feel about this. All I know is, you’ll be missed DA!

Patterson took it

Yao,Miller,Hill
Scola,Hayes/Jeffries,Patterson
Ariza,Battier,Bud
Martin,Taylor
Brooks,Lowry
That’s 14,prob a PG or combo Gd for #15

W/no further trades,it’s an extremely flexible roster.
Brooks,Lowry can play the 2,Bud also at SG
Jeffries was used as a mobile C and PF and can guard the 3s
Ariza,Battier can play the 2(maybe not well, but still…) and can move up to PF against tweeners like Green and Lamar
Hayes,Hill and Scola can play the 4 or 5
Miller can play the 4 some
Really just need an emergency PG.

by Tisbee on Jul 29, 2010 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions

This made the most sense

If he was our only big with 3 pt range there would have been no reason to trade him, that would have made him viable. Since we now have Pat he can fill that void…..

The best part is we keep Chuck now! (which I never thought they would trade him) But now it seems like we will have him on out roster for the next 3+ years when we resign. (Can’t beat his value for money!)

Sad to see Dave go and with him going to Toronto that gives them another big with range but their D is not going to improve from the bottom of the league. Which sucks for the Aussie national team as I was hoping he could learn some with the rockets….

Shane it's time to shave that creepy 'stash

well technicall we chose to keep chuck first

he was the first option to pick up this season

great move

get rid of a player that wasnt going to be an intregal part of the rotation this season for a valuable 2nd round pick Morey works magic with…. now lets ring in Ish Smith and see if he can make it as the 3rd PG

by HB23 on Jul 28, 2010 10:30 PM CDT reply actions

Glad to get the pick

Have nothing against Mr. Anderson and I didn’t get to see him in action but he is 6’10" to Chucky’s 6’6" not to mention Chucky is a one dimintional player who is a TOTAL LIABILITY ON OFFENSE who has choosen not to improve in the 5 years he has been with the rockets he has played in 350 of 410 games averaged 18.23 minutes grabbed 5+ rebounds put up a eye opening 3.6 ppg and when there isn’t any pressure to make a shot he hits 56.8% of his free throws and this is a guy you couldn’t beat out for the starting position. better luck in toronto cause if the competition is as stiff in toronto as it was in houston you will need it. in my opinion we fleeced toronto but then again if yao gets hurt and decides to retire without finishing out the season and miller goes down with an injury the rockets are right back with that hall of famer chucky to the rescue anybody out there willing to give the rockets a 2nd round pick?

by rocketsfn on Jul 28, 2010 10:36 PM CDT reply actions

Does anyone think Hayes could guard

small forwards or shooting guards even? Otherwise, he might not get any playing time this year since Miller came on board.

Hayes will play.

He can shut down 3-5, there just isnt that many players like him.

Did you know Eric Berry was asexually produced by Chuck Norris?

by darwithabar on Jul 29, 2010 12:00 PM CDT up reply actions

hayes has some of the quickest hands and is one of the smartest players defensively. Not afraid or ashamed to take a charge (like the celtics and lakers). I can see miller and hayes on the court together a lot this season, shutting that paint down.

The epitome of

giving a player away for a salary dump. But whatever. It was either this or he would get cut and Houston would be on the hook to eat some salary. Good move.

by Mike Kerns on Jul 29, 2010 8:35 AM CDT reply actions

DA wasnt going to play

and when a 2nd round pick falls in DM’s lap it becomes gold, so its really a awesome move ;)

He did it to shed his salary

considering its double because of the lux tax. We pretty much saved almost 5 mil this year.

Did you know Eric Berry was asexually produced by Chuck Norris?

by darwithabar on Jul 29, 2010 12:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Exactly

From what I’ve heard, there are a ton of stipulations that have to fall in place for Houston to even get that pick. So, it was essentially a salary dump.

by Mike Kerns on Jul 29, 2010 12:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm more inclined

To believe the trade was for the sake of roster flexibility (either through addition of a 3rd PG or the trading of players resulting in us taking an extra back) than cap concerns, though that is a nice added bonus for Les.

I agree

I really hope they get that third PG, I think they are going to sign Smith because he got invited to training camp

by Dream94 on Jul 29, 2010 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

they also

invited Rashad McCants, Romel Beck and DJ Strawberry to training camp. And Pops. Can’t say an invitation means roster slot.

Mike Sweetney even got invited to a C’s training camp. He got kicked out, though, for trying to eat Paul Pierce.

I dunno

The only spot that I see is missing is third PG, especially after last year when Lowry went down, the team went down, Brooks is great but he couldn’t hold it down for all those games on his own, he needed some help.

by Dream94 on Jul 30, 2010 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

by HB23 on Jul 29, 2010 12:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Better to trade him

Than to pay him for doing nothing all season. Andersen was not going to play for the Rockets unless Yao couldn’t play at all. And if Yao cannot play then who cares because it is lottery time again. This is a good move for the Rockets but not good enough. They need to package up 2-3 with a draft pick and get a serious star at SF.

Picture cap

Chris: What the hell did you eat for lunch Dave?

David: Lebrons mom…………………….

The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun

Should have swapped DA for Patty Mills with portland

Just to keep an Aussie contingent on the team – Seemed to get some extra rockets games brodcast here in AUS due to DA being on the team!

Aside from that Patty mills is a gun and would be a great 3rd PG- used to follow him when he was playing for the SMC Gaels.

He was one of the players that tore us up vs the blazers in summer league too – 12 pts 9 assists and 7 rebounds with only 2 TO in 26 mins play.

This is a great trade for Toronto

Now, if they want, they can have the tallest team that can’t rebound or defend in the league!!!!!!

I think the Rox should try this experiment:

When they play the Lakers, how about letting Hayes guard Kobe for a few stretches. You just never know.

by inquisitiveman on Jul 31, 2010 5:50 PM CDT reply actions

man

I would not take that chance for the simple fact that " you just never know". If Kobe isn’t killing him then there will be a opening somehwere else killing us with a major mismatch.

GO ROCKETS, GO TEXANS, GO ASTROS (EVEN THOUGH THEY SUCK)!!!

or best case senario, hayes roughs him up so bad,

by the 4th quarter kobe is banged up, hayes fouled out, but shane or ariza still only have 1 foul. Then they get to guard a banged up kobe int he 4th quarter with 5 fouls to give.
