A bored hopeful trade target post....

With the small trade of DA today I decided to visit our neighbors at Indy Cornrows to check on my hopeful trade deadline target, Mr Granger. So I was looking for any mentions of Houston & Granger in the same sentence and of course these are the same as us just fans putting up wishes in hopes that they come true but I ran across this:

"So in my opinion, Bird should be looking at PG/youngster combos in any Granger trade, and trying to get draft picks too. Like Devin Harris and Derrick Favors, or Aaron Brooks, Jordan Hill and a draft pick, etc…"

Well as i said its just a fan making suggestions but I was curious as to what would we trade for Granger? I think he would be a great addition & I'd do the trade. I'd also try to trade Ariza for a good PG to compensate for the loss of Brooks either to back up Lowry or start.

So what do you guys think?

I would do a 3 way trade

and send a PG to Ind from somewhere else…Give IND Ariza/J. Hill/Jeffries/Pick(s)

Give Indy Ariza, Jordan Hill and a draft pick

Then they can trade that to somebody to get themselves a PG. Let’s keep Brooks. He was excellent last season and is young enough to get better. If Yao is really ready to play, the Rockets can contend this season. To do that, Granger is needed … but so are Brooks & Lowry. Ariza, Budinger, Taylor, draft picks … expendable. But only do it if Yao is really going to be able to play.

Disregard Yao's mortality

and ship out Hill, I’m sure a lottery pick big man is easy to come by. This Granger love, I wouldn’t mind getting him, but I would only swap something like Battier, Jeffries, C-Buddy/Taylor for him. I would want to retain Ariza and Hill for a few reasons:

1.) Better D than Granger.
2.) Proves the Rockets retain some loyalty since we did promise him the world to sign with us.
3.) Good option to have offensively at his point in the pecking order.
4.) Let’s face it, the lions share of possessions will go to Yao and Martin, SF, unless we bring in a z0mgfux style player, will be the third or fourth option (Brooks could be third, or shit, Scola even).
5.) We would have to give in tradeable assets, hence Battier and Jeffries contracts plus C-Buddy (Prefer to keep Taylor as backup 2 is required). We’d still be 2 deep at positions across the board.
6.) Holding on to Hill could prove vital for our longevity since we are grooming him for Center and at 6’10" it’s not like most centers tower over him or anything. He’s got defensive predisposition and a lot of raw offensive skills ripe for development. Keep in mind he’s entering his SECOND year, he still has this entire year before we get a full glimpse of what he can become.
7.) The Rockets contend this season with or without pulling the trigger on a major trade.

Having said all of that, I still feel as though there are trade targets the Rockets can get, but it’s all seeming more like they would have to be trade deadline deals to pull it off. This is due to the fact that most of our assets are for teams looking to rebuild and at the beginning of the season, everyone thinks they’re a contender. Our trade chips usually don’t have value in the offseason unless a team has looked at their roster and said “F*ck it.” (Hi Minnesota!).

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

I am not totally following you...

but I dont think Indy gives up granger for Battier, Jefferies, and either Bud or Taylor…
Yeah it gives them cap relief but it doesn’t really help their team as it frees up space to a FA but a really game changing FA is one like Melo or CP3 and they are not going to be going to Indy anyway

Ideally I would want to keep Bud and Hill but I guess Bud’s position SF/SG are pretty replaceable, more so than PF/C so trade Bud instead.

Honestly, BD34 as usual, we are on the same page: let these guys play and gel together before we start making more changes.
Bud had a couple of awesome games last season so there is no reason to think he has topped out. Same for Hill. If these guys could become Iggy and David Lee type players then lets keep them. That is very very very wishful thinking I know but I just think so much of the upside for these guys is unknown but trending positive so lets see what we really have.

Honestly, as BD34 said, no team is trading a Granger type player until the deadline, when they see they are not getting anywhere with their current roster. Iggy may be an exception, as Philly has been wanting to move his and Brand’s contracts for quite some time. Iggy I say is probably worth it for Bud, picks, Jefferies, Chuck or something like that…but I don’t see Philly taking that low ball a price for Iggy.

From their prospective if we gave them both first round NYC trades, Bud or Taylor and some filler/sallary cap dump that may work…but that is trading a lot of youth for Iggy. We are going to need to draft a good rookie center in the next two or so years so those NYC picks could be exactly that and we may need them.

My reasoning behind the Battier, Jeffries, etc...

was that it would be a way for Indiana to parlay those contracts into further trades for a player that they need or go for outright signings in the offseason. The hitch with Granger lust is there’s no rumor he’s available and Indiana is looking for a point guard to compliment his play. It’s unfounded Rockets fan lust thrown at him (he’s not available, Indiana is actively building around him, and he has made no inclination that he wants to leave).

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

Yeah Larry Bird doesnt really plan that far ahead

He alway try to go for instant gratification.

However, Indiana has their own expiring in Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, TJ Ford, and Jamal Tinsley, which is essentially 1.5 max players, if Troy and Mike resigns, it’ll be at discounted rates because they were over paid, if any thing they should be dealing for a stud rather than dealing their stud

by NVP on Jul 29, 2010 1:54 PM CDT up reply actions

And through this logic

Granger is going nowhere. Which, you’re 100% right. They are loaded on expiring deals and are looking to package Ford and Dunleavy for a high caliber player, they’re more looking to play the market rather than be bought.

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

I think it's easier to trade for Iguodala

The Pacers have way too many expiring deals and are already shopping TJ Ford and Dunleavy around. Here’s my attempt at making it happen;

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=23mfjmv

4 teams, 7 players, and everybody gets cap flexibility… especially Detroit who’d get to move Ben Gordon’s massive contract (I just don’t think he’s worth all that money) Any thoughts?

Great idea

we just dealt Anderson to work our way lower under the cap, let’s take back double his salary to compound it.

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

I think people shouldn't abuse the trade machine...

1.) Philadelphia gets worse giving up iggy and getting Ben F*cking Gordon in return, which you might as well just punch Stefanski in the nuts rather than offer him a player at that point.
2.) Denver moves Kenyon Martin? Really? Their mainstay big man for years and a team that places a premium on having a big man like Martin would willingly give him away for a backup small forward, an expiring contract, and the potential of Jordan Hill (Thus shorting us a potential future center once Yao hangs em’ up).
3.) Houston gives up a King’s Ransom for Andre Iguodala (Kings ransom in that Morey worked EXTREMELY hard for Jordan Hill and Yao’s future puts a premium on us having Jordan pan out, we promised Ariza the world in Houston and he’s a damn good starting Small Forward (They may as well be clones if Ariza improves a facet or two of his game slightly), and one of our biggest expiring contract bargaining chip that we could more sensibly parlay into a better return than one player for 3 that loses us more games than it wins, especially without compromising our future).

I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

ouch!

thats a smackdown for sure. I think Carlos is really happy with his trade machine results and wants us all to see it. He posted the same on my post on Rudy F.

BD34, as usual, you deliver more light than heat, nice job.

At the end of the day, one thing everyone who is trade proposal happy, including myself, has to remember is that we have, at most, a 3 year window to land a good bigman to backup then replace Yao and Miller.

We need all of the expiring contracts and draft picks we can must to keep that going.
Iggy is a good player for sure and is better offensively than Ariza, but Ariza has great D, decent 3pt shooting and is just a nice guy who doesn’t screw thing up with his ego (Tmac anyone?).
We can make a deal 2 for 1 or something like that on the edges but we have to make sure that we have the pieces ready to grab a Favors/Cousins etc…type player if they ever come available.

Iggy may be good for now but I don’t think he is the answer to all of our prayers. Melo or cp3 to a 3+ yr contract would be but Iggy is good but not great and is very expensive for just a decent to small upgrade from Ariza.
