What do people think about this guy?

Josh Smith.

6"9, 234 lb , 24 yrs old.

Last year he averaged a little under 16, 9, 4 and 2 blocks a game.

The Hawks have recently been exploring the possibility of trading power forward Josh Smith as part of their summertime makeover, according to sources around the league.

Now, I don't know about you, but I am 100 percent willing to take Josh Smith. He is young and energetic and a very good defensive player. I think if Atlanta is looking for a little bit of a mixeup then we have pieces we can definitely move.

Nothing has been reported of Smith to Houston, I am just throwing out an idea of him coming here.

What do people think? Would you trade for Josh Smith?

Yes

I was just about to post up something on this! You beat me to it. He averages about 2 blks per game and would be a tremendous weak side defender….not to mention the 16 points and 9 rebs per. Wouldn’t demand alot of touches and as you stated…young and energetic!

if he could improve his outside shot

then hell yes. he has some pretty good post moves as well. His D is what makes him most valuable to me

Please, he is

too old, and with Chuck Hayes,Hill,Patterson coming off the bench where will he get any minutes. He is a vet and will want more money then Hayes,Hill, and Patterson, which means it is not worth it.

Josh Smith is too OLD?

he’s 25, 2 years older than Hill. Also Josh Smith is one of the more underrated players.

He’s improved every year, versatile enough to play SG to PF

Since he given up 3s, He has become a much more efficient player as well, I shudder to think what our interior defense would be like with J-smoov, with the shot altering ability of Yao and Smith’s incredible weakside

I like his play from the games i’ve seen, but those aren’t many.

i would love

to get josh smith. we could play him at SF cuz i believe that is his natural position and we could trade him for ariza.. ariza is more of a lock down defender but josh smith is the better help defender and has incredible athletcism.. I SAY WE GO FOR IT!! a line up of brooks martin josh smith scola and yao would make me forget all about the bosh thing.. we would have the best starting 5 in my opinion

by Zukywich08 on Jul 7, 2010 4:43 PM CDT reply actions

yes

i know we would have to include somebody besides JUST ariza.. maybe one of our draft picks or hill/patterson

by Zukywich08 on Jul 7, 2010 4:49 PM CDT reply actions

maybe? but awesome idea...

to be honest I am suspect of just about everyone on the Hawks team. They clearly are some of the best athletic studs out there but either through immaturity, bad coaching or both they have always underachieved. I don’ t know if Josh Smith is one of the main causes or just a victim but he seems pretty immature.

That being said, his D, jumping ability and energy would help replace Landry’s energy and fire up the team. He adds some more “get your own shot off” type player etc…

The deal then is who to trade for him:

with Bibby fading they probably would take Lowry and probably also a young PF to replace Smith in Hill or maybe patterson.

How about Hill or Patterson, Lowry and Jefferies.

Before the Lowry lovers come after me I just think that Josh Smith is a pretty good player and they need a PG…so it is probably a must in a trade deal. We can afford to trade Hill or Patterson as they are redundant in the PF/small C position.

I personally would rather keep Ariza for his D.

It seems that for every deal Ariza is the one who gets mentioned first as the one to get shipped off. You greatly underestimate the need for his Defense.
Shane is great but slowly fading. Ariza is a great defender and has offensive skills too. Utility players that that great a D are very necessary.

I like Ariza

But he is an overrated man defender.

Did you know Eric Berry was asexually produced by Chuck Norris?

by darwithabar on Jul 8, 2010 12:58 AM CDT up reply actions

well considering his age and athleticism

and his price

I think you’ll be hard press to find a better deal

by NVP on Jul 8, 2010 2:54 AM CDT up reply actions

BUT

He sure is a mean looking guy and being from Atlanta, I would always call him a thug and would eventually shank a player during a game one day. hahaha

If that were remotely true, I don’t know how he’d fit in our locker room. He’d probably take Scola’s lunch money and then make AB wash his clothes.

by dacodeman on Jul 7, 2010 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

lol...scola will destroy him...

and AB would get Yao

ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Roxbybirth on Jul 7, 2010 9:58 PM CDT up reply actions

you made a funny...

brooks getting Yao is pretty freakin funny…
and Shane would lecture him with a ruler sort of like a librarian or something…

by John P on Jul 7, 2010 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions

everybody

includes ariza cuz more teams are going to want him than say a shane battier and i dont think they really need another PG even if mike bibby is getting up there in age.. they drafted a PG a couple years ago out of wake forest i think thats pretty good but i forgot his name and if mike bibby does fall off next year they can just use jamal crawford even if it declines their bench production.. i said to trade ariza and something else for josh smith cuz i doubt ariza will want to come off the bench since we just gave him a contract and we wouldnt be losing much if we traded him away for smith.. josh smith really showed alot of maturity last year everybody knows that.. the year before he took a bunch of unnessary 3 pointers but then he lowered his attempts this past season and showed he is unselfish.. i actually think it would be a better move to pick up josh smith than bosh cuz we are already stacked at power forward (yes i know bosh already is signing with miami).. SF is are biggest weakness

ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Roxbybirth on Jul 7, 2010 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions

first of all...why the Ban Hammer?

I kind of agree with him.
Bosh would definitely help the team and would be an upgrade (though not a huge upgrade) from Scola…but Josh Smith really does add a lot in terms of athleticism, energy, shot blocking etc…

I think it is an interesting offer but I still have a huge question of his attitude. Its not like Yao can defend both Brooks and Martin from Smith stealing their lunch money. I guess there is always Lowry to help defend them….the man is probably the toughest guy on the team (mighty mouse)

but overall a pretty interesting idea…

by John P on Jul 7, 2010 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

oh and banhammer for pain to read......

he cowld use at laest propre grammer and spellang

ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Roxbybirth on Jul 7, 2010 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

are

you using that banhammer on me? lol

by Zukywich08 on Jul 7, 2010 10:59 PM CDT reply actions

Oh my God

I just passed out from the awesomeness of this idea. Are they really shopping him? I hope/know Morey will be interested if thats the case. When my dad and I used to discuss the Bosh trade it puzzled us that we were going after a guy that played the position we are the deepest at. It seems to me that we are a little thin at C and SF. If we could trade up for Josh Smith and have Battier comin off the bench and then bring in Miller to back Yao, our roster is stacked.

by theSpaceCityKid on Jul 8, 2010 12:18 PM CDT reply actions

We are not think at SF.

With battier and Ariza there i would say its one of our best positions.

I would trade Battier Anderson and the Chuckwagon. Thats what it would take to bring him here.

If we did this with the the Tyson Chandler for JJ. I think brooks, lowry, and yao, and scola would be the only players here that have been on more than 2 seasons. Actually more than 1 season… Damn…

by AlDe2356 on Jul 8, 2010 5:14 PM CDT up reply actions

if we got rid

of either ariza/battier and something else for josh smith we would be even better at that position

by Zukywich08 on Jul 8, 2010 5:16 PM CDT reply actions

and no sir

SF is not “one of our best postions”.. PF is def. our best position then its PG if lowry comes back then SG and then MAYBE SF but i still say its last if hill becomes a backup center and we might even get chandler
