Your Favorite Players (in specific categories)
So Batman and I had an exchange about our "favorite" players so I thought it would be a hopefully fun distraction from, well baseball and football, waiting for the season to start.
So here is the question: Who is your favorite player or players in the following three categories:
1) favorite player to go have a beer with
2)favorite player to watch play the game of basketball
3) favorite player you love to see get blocked, trashed, miss a shot or basically just suck it up royally.
As the poster my picks are the following:
1) Shane Battier: besides being on the Rockets and one of my favorite players on the team, I just think he would be a smart, quirky guy to hang out with. I would make him do Deke's voice and get into an indepth conversation of how he defends Kobe and other great players. I think he is smarter than the vast majority of bball players out there and would have the most to say.
2) There are so many great players to watch but I would have to say the first that comes to mind is Manu. I know many of you guys hate him with the hot hatred of a thousand suns, but the guy is just a suicidal player who hurls his body at the rim and over or around opposing players with little thought of where he is going to land. He has a great three point shot and can take over a game. I also like watching Durant's silky shooting from just about anywhere, and John Salmon's game when he is on his game, but Manu is just fun to watch.
3) It is so hard to pick between Amare and Pierce but I have to go with Pierce. Amare is so dumb either he doesn't get interviewed as much or just avoids the whole process. Not so with Pierce. He thinks he has something important to say, besides declaring himself the greatest basketball player in the world, and always seems to get that pubic hair face in front of the cameras. Maybe it is just that I am so negatively impacted by seeing his ugly mug that his appearances stick out but the guy is just a drama queen and the most annoying NBA player.
Enjoy your love and hatred of your three players...and if you particularly don't like Manu or like Pierce...don't worry, no one is perfect.
No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Do not cut/paste entire sections of content from other websites. Thanks.

Took you long enough to post the thread lol
Good job though
My list from 1-3 is as follows:
1) I would love to have a beer with The Diesel. Too entertaining of a man and he seems like a cool cat.
2) LBJ. Anyone who doesn’t like at least watching him play is not a fan of basketball. Say what you want about his character but the guy is amazing and that’s an understatement.
3) It’s a tie between Kobe, Pau Gasol, and Chris Bosh. I love all of their games but I have my reasons. I don’t want Kobe to tie Jordan for rings, Pau Gasol is the most overrated player in the NBA since becoming a Laker, Chris Bosh is a two faced, piggybacking, broke nose bitch.
And I have always wondered who created liquid soap and why, seriously.
GO ROCKETS, GO TEXANS, GO ASTROS (EVEN THOUGH THEY SUCK)!!!
I'll keep it mostly current
1 might actually be Yao, cause for as long as we know Yao the athlete, I always felt we dont know Yao the person as well as we should(other than he’s damn funny)
2 is actually too many people to count, I love to see Shane and Chuck play because they just know where they should be and how they should defend a far superior offensive player. I’m pretty much in awe every time Kobe and Wade score, because they make impossible shots looks easy, I like Mike Brown year one Lebron, not the Lebron of past 2 year
3 is probably now Lebron, but since that’s near impossible, I will go with either Fisher or Sasha Vujacic or everyone on the Jazz. And for a special pick from the past, Karl Malone?
I like this post, so I shall contribute
1: Gerald Green. (Probably a very popular choice huh?) The only reason I say this is because I want to ask him personally why he chooses not to play defense whatsoever and why he refuses to listen to coaches and learn the playbook. He could be such a great offensive player, a Carmelo type, if he just took some time out of his day to learn how to play the other side of the game. And I’d want him to teach me how to jump as high as he can.
2: I love to see Russel Westbrook play. He is so fearless when it comes to driving the lane and throwing a big one down against anyone. He’s fun to watch on fast break and can do some pretty spectacular things every now and then.
3: I really have to go with LeBron. Not for any reasons that anyone else has suggested, but for the fact that he let down so many people in Cleveland( which is actually only half an hour away from me) and the fact that he showboats every time he scores. Other than him though, I’d have to say Carlos Boozer. Half for the fact that he plays on the Jazz, and half for the fact that he is LeBron 2.0 but not nearly as good.
I had an ant farm once, but them fellas didn't grow shit
1. Mutombo/ Artest/ Joey Dorsey. Can you imagine two better characters in the nba? With crazy pills i would just be waiting for him to put some guy in a headlock at the bar. Mutombo has just got to be an interesting cat. Joey Dorsey… well partying seems to be just about all hes good for. That and Gorilla Dunks.
2. I gotta agree LBJ. The guy is entertaining. He just plays above the rim. Its fun to watch. The pregame antics and all that stuff. I think having a shaq a few years ago would be pretty entertaing too. Fatass was the guy I watched growing up. Kazaam didnt hurt either. Either way the great aristotle certainly keeps things interesting.
3. LBJ – I love watching the dude, but he turned his back on a city. I cant quite say theres a player out there who immediately caused as many people to turn to hard liquor as he did. Not that Cleveland wasn’t on it already but that just makes it all the more worse.
Great post John
You picked my guy for the first one though. I would definitely go have a beer with Battier. He seems like a great guy who would answer all my stupid questions and just seems really personable. But since he’s taken I’ll go with…
1. But I would have a beer with Artest. That would be a story to write home about I’m sure. He’s interesting and hilarious. And would probably get stoned in about 10 minutes and start spouting off about anything and everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the NBA. (That was a hard choice, it came down to Landry, Yao, Brooks or Artest…had to go with Ron-Ron)
2. I hate to say it given the turn of events the past few months. But LeBron is my favorite player to watch. And even though I hate the whole alliance in South Beach, it will be interesting to watch them all play.
3. And though I like watching him play, I of course which nothing but bad things on him. For reasons stated above. I’m a very conflicted person, obviously.
"If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team], I would take Olajuwon. That leaves out Shaq, Patrick Ewing. It leaves out Wilt Chamberlain. It leaves out a lot of people. And the reason I would take Olajuwon is very simple: he is so versatile because of what he can give you from that position. It's not just his scoring, not just his rebounding or not just his blocked shots. People don't realize he was in the top seven in steals. He always made great decisions on the court. For all facets of the game, I have to give it to him." -Michael Jordan
My picks:
1) I’d love to have a brew with Nash. He seems really chill and has a good sense of humor. Yao would be a close second. I’m Chinese so we’d be able to conversate in Mandarin. I’d love to hear what he has to say on politics and other non basketball related issues.
2) Rondo! The way he controls the tempo of the game is smooth like buttah. My favorite PG playing right now. Runner up would have to be Kobe. Don’t really care much for him as a person, although, he’s grown on me these last two seasons, but I respect his game. When the game is on the line and Kobe just ices the other team with a big shot, it’s the closest to seeing Michael Jordan play in this era. And last but not least, of course I gotta give Yao a mention. When he’s on a tear and just swallows any opposing center (especially when it’s Howard) then spits them out like nothing, it’s so satisfying to watch. But Yao can also be frustrating to watch at times as well. I’m sure many know what I’m talking about.
3) Easy. I HATE LeBron!! Started to really hate him after his third season in the league when he become more douche-baggy and overrated. Never really was a fan of the Cavs, but I live in Ohio so listening to all the lip smackin when people would suck on LeBron’s cock and the trash talkin of how the Cavs are the greatest team ever got really annoying… season after season after season. Then you add in ESPN and their shoving-down-our-throats style of broadcasting of the LeBron/Cavs… ugh, I was ready to jump. A tie for second on my “hate list” is Dwight Howard and CP3.
glad others don't like Howard...
The man is a best on D but it takes more than that to be a star in my book. And he and Lebron are both show boat goofs, which I never knew gets under my skin.
CP3 just seems almost Amare dumb, but has an amazing game that is unbelievable to watch at times so I can’t hate him. Plus playing for the down and out NO city makes me happy that they have something to be positive about.
Yeah, you never saw Jordan or any other of those players do any of that pregame kiddy shit.
I get it. LBJ and co. are trying to make it more entertaining for the fans, but after awhile it just looks phony and gimmicky. Be professional and prove it out on the court. This isn’t MTV’s Rock ‘N’ Jock Basketball… although, that was actually a pretty fun show.
CP3 just looks like he has a stick up his ass all the time, like those tool bag jocks people hate in HS.
Chauncey owned him in the Playoffs, too. Best PG my ass…
Hmm...
1) Even though I am too young to have a beer, I guess I would like to have a Coke with Shane also. I mean this is just so knowledgable about the game as a player and a person that I wish that he would share some of his insight with me.
2) I am probably going to get a lot of haters for this, but the player I would like to watch the most would be…..Tracy McGrady. Yup, I said it. And I am not talking about the Tracy we had in ‘08 as furture. I’m talking about the Tracy of the Magic and of the ‘04 Rockets. You have to understand that I really didn’t watch NBA games until the ’04 season. So I never got to watch the real Tracy McGrady, except on YouTube. And from those clips he is probably the most exciting player I have ever watched. His explosiveness with his PF like length is just unstoppable. Combine that length with ball handling skills of a PG, also add his dunking ability and shooting ability; Tracy McGrady would have been a legend in shorter time it would take to say chesse pizza. Definitly a player that I would pay to see play again.
3) Finally for my last, I would really like to see Kobe just screw up everything. I never really liked him that much. Respect, yes… like, no. To me he just has that cockiness about him that I really hate to see in people. Don’t get me wrong he is/was an exciting player to watch but sometimes I would just like to see him fall on his face every once in awhile.
Def Tmac in his prime. The guy was superb.
And dont belive the hype kobe falls on his face all the time he just so happens to have a terrific team that can pick up the slack when he does end up sucking.
The true strength of south beach.
There's been so many player that's like T-mac
in term of career path and style of, Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill comes into mind, all around amazing in their prime, but plague by injuries. Here’s hoping he takes a page out of Hill’s book and become an effective complementary player as a seasoned Vet with glorious past
Penny is probably the greatest (during his prime) out of all the injury plagued former superstars.
When Jordan briefly retired, Penny was arguably the best player in the league. Mannn… I miss his game. He could have been better than Magic.
So far all the ones who like LBJ hate Kobe and vice versa.
Not sure if anyone would ever truly admit or consciously know for a fact that those Nike puppet commercials had an effect or not on which player they prefer. The power of TV marketing can’t be underestimated…
I had nothing against Lebron at all until he started doing those opening game goof offs...
which was sort of all in fun but it really felt like arrogance after a while…then to see them fall apart in the playoffs is just classic. Now after the Decision I really can’t stand the guy.
Kobe is an arrogant SOB for sure, an asshole, hard nosed, etc….but the guy seriously backs it up. He has barely lost a step until last years injuries and he played through all of them. I guess I got use to and then go over hating Kobe’s arrogance but his game is so complete, his drive so overwhelming etc… I just respect him too much to hate him.
Lebron is also a great player but he seems way to worried about being a brand, a billionaire, a pop star that he will never be a Jordan or a Kobe, or at least until he snaps out of it, grows up and focuses on winning and only winning. He now has a great team around him so he better do it, otherwise he will be just a waste of talent. I hope he falls on his face but if he cleans his arrogant, spoiled ass up I will probably get over my hatred of him but until then..fuck’em
I used to be a big LeBron fan.
How couldn’t I have been? He was like the biggest thing to happen to the state of Ohio in terms of basketball. First two seasons or so, dude was really humble and seemed like on the right path. Then it all started to go downhill and his true colors showed. I mean the kid has been spoiled from day one when he was a prodigy back in middle school so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he is the way he is now. All that early NBA shit was just a front, a training period for him to be comfortable playing on the biggest basketball stage in the world and being this huge celebrity. Then when he’s settled down with his surroundings, the mask comes off and the real face is shown. It also doesn’t help that he’s surrounded by leeches and sycophants. Don’t get me wrong, LBJ is very talented and is a freak specimen, but he lacks a lot of the non physical skills of the game… those skills that Jordan, Kobe and all the legends have. Because of that I think LBJ is very overrated and I haven’t even mentioned how one dimensional his game is.
I used to hate, HATE Kobe, but recently have new found respect for him as a person because it seems he has matured, as far as being a team leader. Phil fuckin hated him during the Lakers/Shaq era, thought he was a prima donna tool bag. It is said that Phil went to see his therapist quite often during those years because of how dysfunctional and draining that Lakers team was. And you nailed it with Kobe backing his shit up. Dude has drive and has proved his worth from day one.
LBJ and Kobe both are extremely polarizing, but only one has paid his dues and has the accomplishments to back up their unlikeable personality. I think many who hate the NBA now and some of these young players is because of how they’re given everything, all the attention of being “the best,” etc., but not necessarily having paid their dues. Damn… long rant, I know. Ha.
My list
1.) Beer with Ron Artest. I feel like it’d be talking to an insane person but it would also just be nice to sit and chat. I like the guy.
2.) To watch… Dirk Nowitzki actually. Yea, he plays for Dallas, but not being from Texas, I don’t have that bias. I like his shot form, I have long since used his elbow post ups, and think he’s just so impressive in how he dominates games.
3.) Player I want to watch just fall apart… Dwight Howard. Best Center in the NBA My ass…
I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.
+1 on the Dwight Hate
No offensive game, not a guy you want to give the ball to in the clutch= NOT the best player in the game at his position.
The one thing that list did alert me to is the value of Bogut. True, he is a good player on an otherwise medicore team last year but the guy can play and deserves credit for it. I hope his arm fully recovers so Yao can spank the ever living shit out of him and so that no one doubts the Great Wall is #1
Yes, another person that HATES Howard!
Yao IS the #1 center in the league, but there are politics like race, personality, etc. that play into being labeled as “the best,” thus, Yao doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves.
Nice post
1) Mutombo, if only to try and convince him to narrate some books on tape. Preferably some of the classics that everyone is forced to read in high school or freshman college courses to make sure he gets the most exposure. Imagine Deke "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times… " It would be awesome…like Robot Ninja Pirate bad ass.
2) Scola in beast mode.
3) lots of great responses on this one. I generally like to see the arrogant and stupid players get destroyed.
Also speaking of Manu and hated players, I just love his devastating block on Garnett >_<
