Does anyone else
listen to The Mars Volta? Damn, what an awesome band! I just got into them about a month or two ago, and I'm uber-glad my cousin introduced me to their major 2003 debut album, De-loused in the Comatorium. Of course, this ultimately drove me to research their "spititual prequel" of a band, if you will, At-the-Drive In. I like them even better now! I firmly believe that "One Armed Scissor" from ATDI or "Inertiac ESP" from Mars would rock the Toyota Center during warm-ups much harder than (insert trendy alt. rock station single here). What else is cool is that they're sorta local, from El Paso!
I ask this question to gather if my fellow rockets fans have the same taste in rock music..other fave recent (as opposed to classic) bands include but are not limited to: Modest Mouse, MGMT, Alkaline Trio, Phoenix, Chevelle, Tool, Deathcab for Cutie, Liam Lynch, The Black Keys.
I am also actually interested in any other artist from any particular genre you guys can think of! (know Batman713 is also a Z-ro fan).
No cursing in title. No pirated material, such as links to online game streams. Do not cut/paste entire sections of content from other websites. Thanks.

not basketball related but...
I love music. If you are just now digging the mars volta, welcome to prog rock. Coheed and Cambria will define you next. Get some dream theater, the dear hunter, and porcupine tree.
I'm always right, this isn't conjecture, merely statement of fact.

I found 83 cents in my backyard after last night's party..I'm not returning it until the owner describes what coins were lost in EXACT change. -Willie White's status

Sure it is….Rappers want to be ball players, and ballers want to be rappers. lol
Coheed is awesome. Start with their early stuff and go forward. I’ll also suggest Deftones. My favorite band all-time. Their new CD blew my mind. They’re a lttle harder than MarsVolta and Coheed tho.

Mars Volta is prog?
Where are the poofy shirts?
Where are the synthesizers that sound like farts?
Where are the boring drum solos celebrated for their “technical” merit?

The Dreamshake
Progressive is like socialism
You’ll never hear the same definition out of two fans.
Also, another good recommendation, Dredg, that band will change your life.

coheed and cambria is a step back from mars volta
but yea dude, the way number 1 on the cd transitions to number 2 is fu(king amazing. Cicatriz ESP is my fav song. Great song for being stoned, but can be a little too intense for acid, which is its only weakness.

i love that midpoint
where its like 5 min of just faint noises and computer beeps. Its so random and unnecessary but still tight lol

i have to say first and foremost
I’m getting sick and tired of posts that have nothing to do with the Rockets.
Now that’s out of the way…
I gotta say I love all the bands that you guys have named so far. I don’t have my iPod in front of me, otherwise I’d contribute. De-loused is a great album. I’m glad you’re opening your horizons :-)

i mentioned the toyota center
how is not related? and are you really “sick and tired” of it? Or is it actually the melo-trade ideas and “power rankings” you’re frustrated over? But I digress..
Yea, my taste in music goes from Outkast to Immortal Technique (not that I also dont appreciate H-town as well..Trae, Z-ro, etc.), Led Zeppelin to Heart, Enrique Iglesias to Lady Gaga (gf material), Jason Mraz to Common, etc, etc. (including dancehall, jazz, country, reggae, house, dance, espanol, indie, alt)
If anyone says Nickelback, I’m quitting Dreamshake forever.

never expected that but.....
was into at the drive in and when they split into sparta and mar volta it became clear who the better memebers were. compare cut your ribbon to any volta song and ull catch my drift. deloused was my life’s soundtrack for a few months when it first came out. my friends and i are drummers so we tend to follow notable talent, i remeber by the time the second album dropped, my boy came over later the same day and alrdy knew the beats to almost all the songs…..i hated him for that. never thought they would take off like they have and now that they did i feel betrayed, funny how that works.
