Yes I lifted that from Douglas Adams. It does however, fit our current situation. Having no desire to revisit topics covered quite well by others recently, I would like to make a couple of points.
First, this team was built to contend with Yao in the middle. You are not going to find a replacement for 20&10 and two blocks, not to mention deadly accurate late game free throws via trade. Failing that, we will not do any serious damage in the playoffs this year. We can complain about the lack of a "plan B" all we want, that was our best shot at the brass ring and it is gone.
Second, Melo ain't going to play for the Rockets next year. We might get Denver to trade him to us, but come next year he will walk. The problem is not changing his mind, the problem is betting the ranch on someone who calls herself La La. Check out her web site and then try to see her moving here.
This brings us to the part about panic. What we need to hope for is calm deliberate action from Mr Morey. Years back, desperate measures brought us a center named Cato. Yes we suck right now, but believe me compared to that, this sucks less! A trade that brings us a big without long term money attached, (Dalembert would work), or a trade to sort out our wing logjam would be good. A trade that guts the roster and or loads us with long term contracts would not be good.
Just one last note; I still have several sets of tickets for this season left and my wife and I left the Orlando game at the half. So I do feel your pain! You may now kibitz to your hearts content.
