Should we go after russell westbrook

After we got screwed by the evil commissioner in the trade that shall never be named, we were hopeless. The only star that we could get is still in LA. The Pau Gasol and Nene combo would have been the best frontcourt in the nba. Only teams with a comparison to that are grizzlies (randolph and marc) and Knicks ( Amare and Tyson). After obtaining Pau and Nene in a possible sign and trade for Jordan Hill, and amnestying Thabeet, we would have had over 7 million dollars in cap space to fill out any roster holes( backup point maybe, Backup wing, etc). We would be the only other team in the west that could possibly win a championship (OKC being the other). But as reality strikes, we are still a team with a bunch of power forwards, cheap assets, a one dimensional scorer and a PG who is a total stud. Oh at least we finally got a Center.

That being said, Russell Westbrook must be Morey's next target. We need a leader and he can be a leader. I do not see any reason OKC should not trade him. Westbrook wants to be the batman, but Kevin Durant is in the way. Westbrook was arguing with Kevin Durant and wants to show he can be the leader. Skip Bayless said that " the difference between Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook is Kevin Durant." A trade package of Lowry, Patterson, and a 1st rounder should do the trick. I know Lowry is a complete and total stud, but Westbrook has way more potential and more athleticism. What do you guys think?

Why would the Rockets

want a guy like that? I want him on the Thunder, as long as he is there the chance of him shooting them out of the game is always a possibility. I am not a fan of volume shooters.

If Lowry keeps up this play

You keep him. Nice contract and all-star numbers=keeper. Westbrook is good and all but he is Steve Francis 2.0 and I don’t want another pg on this team who averages 6 TO’s per game.

I hate david stern!

Can we seriously stop

I’m ok with Howard, Paul, those guys were legit on the market and disgruntle.

let the guy who’d paid to do the trades worry about this. Russel Westbrook isnt even really on the market,, he has a couple of bad news and now he’s a “target?”

We’re 2 games into the seasons, can we not talk about "target"s

by NVP on Dec 30, 2011 12:52 AM CST reply actions

psh I wish, he gets paid to evaluate players

Morey also probably writes better than this.

I just find proposed trade targets with no serious weight behind it rather lacking, because in the end we cant do nothing about . Even if we worked out a perfect 10 team trade where everyone gets better, it still just fruitless, empty talk.

If Woj of Feign report something, sure, let’s all discuss it, but why are we so desperate at trying to tear-down a team that we know so little about that we’re just throwing out random targets

by NVP on Dec 30, 2011 2:16 AM CST up reply actions

yeah i agree to some extent

“We’re two games into the season, can we not talk about targets” < that just sounded like something Morey would say, haha

Lowry

Would make the Thunder, even scarier. lol

flayed ones stealth mode

"Fleshling! Do not shoot! For I am one of you fleshy things. It is I. Your Uncle Stan. Can't you tell by the long strips of fleshy substances covered in bodily fluids? Trust me! I have fleeeeeeeeesh."

This deserves repeating

we are in a position where time is on our side. Especially if we can play near .500 these first few games. As the season goes on, the teams that are under pressure to win now, (who tend to have older rosters), will also be more susceptible to injury. Put those together and you might find someone looking to make a deal on our terms. If we can stay in the playoff picture and deal from strength rather than need, we might be able to make a pretty good deal.

Well, Morey loves going after talented players who’s stocks are low at the moment and Westbrook fits that description.

I put most of the blame on Scott Brooks for having a terrible offense.

by VBG on Dec 30, 2011 8:06 AM CST reply actions

umm, how 'bout "no"?

Name the last team to win a ring with an elite PG?

The 80s Lakers? they had Kareem and Worthy.

The point? No way Morey gives up on Lowry AND Patterson AND a pick for a player like Westbrook who, while really really good, is not someone who will put the Rockets on the path to a ring. That just absurd.

Plus, Westbrook and KD are fine. If they are NOT fighting and yelling at each other from time to time, that’s when you have real problems.

Pistons with Isiah won after the Lakers.

by VBG on Dec 30, 2011 8:53 AM CST up reply actions

that team was loaded

If the Rockets seek to acquire Westbrook… they’d need a Laimbeer, Dumars, Mahorn and Rodman to go with him. That’s two HOFers in addition to Isiah.

by grungedave on Dec 30, 2011 10:53 AM CST up reply actions

Well most teams that won a ring were loaded.

Jason Kidd got to two NBA Finals. Didn’t win but at least got there.

by VBG on Dec 30, 2011 11:00 AM CST up reply actions

Yes

on a team that no longer feature him as a star player and rely on him as a primary scoring option. Kind of like how Gary Payton also won a ring

Noooooooo!!!!!!!

Russell + Westbrook = Steve Francis so hell no!!!

by fern25ji on Dec 30, 2011 11:54 AM CST reply actions

Westbrook is a combo guard

Westbrook is a combo guard who is a volume shooter. Having him and Martin on the same team will not work. With having Martin at the 2, it is necessary to have a true point guard that creates for the other players around him and can occasionally score and have a decent one-on-one game. We already have that in Lowry. No need to give up Lowry, Patterson, and a draft pick for Westbrook. Hell, I wouldn’t even trade Lowry for Westbrook straight up (Not sure of Westbrook’s contract). He just isn’t a player that compliments our team.

the video fails to show all the times that he shot his team out of games

i mean, westbrook is a really good, athletic PG. he just needs to mature a bit and figure out his role on the thunder. by figure out his role, i mean figure out that his shooting range is a lot shorter than he thinks and that he needs to slow down when the out-of-control layups aren’t falling.
