I have a feeling

this might be why Nene has yet to sign the big-time offer that New Jersey has made to him. Also, no word on Marc Gasol or Deandre Jordan. There has to be a way this trade is made to work; I imagine LA giving up a pick, and Houston or LA adding another young player to the deal has to satisfy the criteria for acceptability for David Stern.

Well you have to keep in mind

that Patterson, at best, will be coming off the bench to back Gasol. I imagine DM wants to keep him because he thinks whoever we sign in FA now (like Nene), paired with Patterson and a pick (+ whoever else we have) will be enough to get ORL to trade Dwight Howard to Houston

After sending an email to the nba, this is what I got back

Dear Daniel:

Thank you for writing to the National Basketball Association with your concerns about the proposed three-team trade between the New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers. NBA Commissioner David Stern released the following statement:

"Since the NBA purchased the New Orleans Hornets, final responsibility for significant management decisions lies with the Commissioner’s Office in consultation with team chairman Jac Sperling. All decisions are made on the basis of what is in the best interests of the Hornets. In the case of the trade proposal that was made to the Hornets for Chris Paul, we decided, free from the influence of other NBA owners, that the team was better served with Chris in a Hornets uniform than by the outcome of the terms of that trade."

We appreciate your interest in the NBA.

Sincerely,

NBA Fan Relations

Thanks for nothing NBA

I could’ve just read the Stern statement myself

by twinkilling0303 on Dec 9, 2011 4:08 PM CST up reply actions

Downright laughable

If Stern doesn’t let a deal through and stays by this “basketball reasons” crap, I’ll lose whatever shred of respect I have for him. At least man up and say that you don’t want to allow a super team to start up a day after you made a CBA that theoretically would stop that. The Hornets got a darn good deal, a deal that 3 veteran GM’s agreed to.

by SpaceCityFan on Dec 9, 2011 4:08 PM CST reply actions

I'd be pretty discouraged, too

You work for years to get yourself into a position to make a killer move, then the lockout happens, and then when that shit’s finally over, it looks like you have everything together (trade for Pau, amnesty Thabeet, sign Nene, rock the world), and then Stern and co. comes along and fucks you right in the ass.

Enough to make you think the league is actively trying to destroy your team.

by Only_A_Lad on Dec 9, 2011 4:12 PM CST up reply actions

Kevin I think was clicking with his Rockets teammates, and Lamar was truly at home with the Lakers. Both players feel betrayed with this trade, but the most tragic thing is now the chemistry of these teams are shot as they have to deal with the fallout of a failed trade.

I can’t imagine being fired and then told: “Oh hey never mind we thought we could get someone better than you but that fell through…welcome back pal!”

Trades are an unfortunate, but necessary part of the NBA, but this is just another reason why Stern’s meddling is so disastrous and uncalled for.

well **** a duck!!!!

This may affect everything…. as far as our cap flexibility. How about Flynn instead of Dragic?

If you can feel them, they are real.

by jake_471 on Dec 9, 2011 5:21 PM CST up reply actions

Flynn

I’m not sure that he would be an upgrade over Dragic to the Hornets given the problems he had had. I’m betting we will lose a Rookie or Sophmore (Morris or P-Pat perhaps), I would be crazy sad if we lost P-Pat though.

by Aging Dominican on Dec 9, 2011 5:23 PM CST up reply actions

I hope its Hill and Twill

If its Morris or Patterson, ima be pissed. Don’t move part of your future for Gasol

I'm OK with Morris

I’m not super high on him, but I am curious to see what he can do. P-Pat would be horrible to me though, not only is he very talented, but he also just has such a good head on his shoulders, I feel like he fills the void left by Battier.

by Aging Dominican on Dec 9, 2011 5:30 PM CST up reply actions

My theory with Morris is the Rockets just drafted him

That did that for a reason. Lets see what he has first.

Like Pat Patterson young?

Because I remember them talking about whether or not NO can take on all of these contracts.

by SpaceCityFan on Dec 9, 2011 5:22 PM CST up reply actions

If they want more youth that means we're most likely going to keep Scola or Martin, my view, Scola.

But what does this fanbase want? Everyone was so distraught to lose either of them because they’re clearly NBA superstars and now we may get to keep one at the cost of losing yet another 6’9" player when we just drafted another one? We may want Morris at the 3 but he’s a 4 bodied guy with experience at the 4. We have Motie overseas, Llull overseas, and Jordan Hill knocking around for 4/5 AND free agent cap space we’ll be getting. If anything the Lakers will be forced to deal some picks and youth like Caracter. If all goes well we might even be able to get our hands on Okafor or something, and hell, what about the idea of the Lakers getting Okafor in the deal and shackling up their long term financial flexibility?

I’d love for the Rockets to say f*ck signing a center, we’ll take Gasol and Okafor, give up another young PF, and be done with the offseason. Trot out a starting line up of:

Lowry/Flynn
Lee/Williams/Taylor
Bud/Williams/Taylor/Morris
Gasol/Hill/Morris/Scola
Okafor/Hill/Thabeet

How does that not get you a little excited in the pants?

I am pissed at the thought

of losing youth over those two dudes. I’d rather have Martin in that roster then Scola, simply because of the money issue with redundancy. I have stated already I think the only way this trade goes down is if LA gets shanked more, not us. I would love Gasol and Okafor frontcourt. I know Okafors contract is a little beastly, but you gotta give to get. Package Scola in another trade for an SG or picks and take a flyer on R. Jefferson. Wouldn’t have to pay too much for him. Think about that lineup. I would rather dump Hill and Morris then PPat. I think he is more then likely going to be “that guy” for us. Either way, I like your moves.

Like you said man. Gotta give to get. Which means if you want it done, good bye Patterson.

If Scola gets left on the roster we still get the option to deal him in a later deal. To me, not a bad insurance piece if need be though.

Make no mistake

I am not a homer or unrealistic. Just sucks that the previous trade didn’t go through. My biggest concern now is we get screwed over trying to improve our roster through no fault of the GM or owner, and actually nothing substantial materializes. That is the worse case scenario to me, other then getting herpes.

Also, I don't think the league is looking at us

to give up more. I think they will only be happy if the Lakers have to give up Bynum and Gasol, or something ridiculous like that.

I think if that ends up being the deal

you do it, but it’s the last option. He has to try everything in his power not to give up Morris and PP, unless he gets more in return. But ultimately, you do it.

it seems like a conflict of intrest with the league owning a team, making the schedule, assigning certain refs to certain games

setting up the lottery, approving or rejecting trades. seems like it wouldnt be that hard, with all that power, that they could shape things in subtile ways to benefit themselves.

I read somewhere else

Where a GM pretty much admitted they would all be low balling the Rockets and Lakers in any potential trades thanks to this mess.

by Aging Dominican on Dec 9, 2011 5:35 PM CST up reply actions

One of the dumbest moves for a GM to do.

These teams don’t have to trade any of their players and their players are under longer term trades. Lowball all you want, doesn’t mean the guys will be moved. The only one butthurt in all this is Martin and it’s more likely he’s moved in any revised deal anyhow.

Kevin Martin had some unkind words for Daryl Morey today

“Yeah the guy took me out on the town to make up for this trade debacle.” The flustered guard reluctantly went along with Morey for the sake of peace, but the night did not end well. “He got me plastered, I think he may have even slipped me a rophy, I woke up next to a disease ridden Tranny. He’s a sick man who not only has shown his cards, but shown that he is playing with a stacked deck!”

Martin refuses to attend any Rockets practices and is demanding a trade immediately, to which commish David Stern has replied with a simple “No, deal with it.”

Scola is almost redundant with Patterson around. Martin still has a lot to give, but man it’s just risky keeping him here after this.

Yeah

Out of Martin and Scola, I would be sadder to lose Scola, but that might mean we will lose P2 and im not sure how I feel about that, would Hill with TWill help?

I think last year was damaging for our young players.

I’m well recorded of my disagreement with Rick Adelman over screwing over the young guys in PT and T-Will got boned, hard, and the move to the 5 caused a recreation of Hill’s rookie season. Hard to extract value out of guys who you may really believe can be great when they were never put in a position to excel.

If you’re the Rockets you’re almost forced to offer Patterson, especially considering the Hornets are losing David West. Fortunately, like I said below, I feel that Morris is a capable 4 to play in a 3 style that we want to convert anyhow.

I don't know about Hill

A lot of us Rockets fans see something there, but I don’t know if other teams consider him to be anything other than a bust. I think to get this deal done, we will have to throw in a younger player which has a decent amount of value such as P-Pat. :(
