RA and players minutes...

Just a quick thought about playing time.

Ok, so in case anyone missed it, we are in complete rebuilding time.

Of our starters, we know what Scola, Hayes and Martin can do.

What we don't know is what PP, Hill, Bud, TWill, etc... can do with extended minutes.

I could even buy that we should continue to give Lowry advanced minutes, to cement his starting PG role.

But I just looked at the box score and saw that the top three players, minutes wise, were Scola, Martin and Hayes, with something like 40 minutes. The next group played around 28 minutes.

Now I know we want to win games and all...and what coach doesn't want to throw away a game to get some extra minutes for some scrubs, but if we are going to succeed at all with this rebuilding effort we need to be focusing on turning our real young talent, particularly PP, with some serious minutes.

I know teams shouldn't want to tank a season, but wouldn't Scola and Martin even be better off if we end up with a higher lottery pick by really sucking up the rest of the season, then we could get them more help for next season?

Maybe if RA is going to continue this way we may really need a more rebuilding minded coach. Can't blame RA. I am a huge fan of his and think he has done wonders in the past challenging seasons with what he has to work with, but maybe a new direction is what the team needs. Just an idea.

Aside: saw part of the Spurs-Memphis game tonight and saw Battier out there in Memphis blue. It makes me sad. It even makes me more sad that he could have ended up in a real contender with Boston or some other team but intead he is probably on a first round exit yet again. Maybe not, but I wish he could be championship bound...if not at least deep playoff bound. Happy trails Shane.
