I think this game is where we missed Battier
not only his defense, but he rebounds very well. He could’ve been the guy boxing out while Hill or PP tried to block shots. In theory they did the right thing, we just couldn’t get the rebounds.

Seems to be getting it in the D-League. Someone to at least threaten and alter shots, get a guy like Hill or Patty behind him at the 4 and tell em’ to stay to home and let Thabeet rack up the fouls/blocks.

With talk of contraction, the Rockets have to force themselves to maintain relevance. Let’s face it, no one knows the criteria for contraction and the only safe ones are Miami, New York, Chicago, LA, and maybe one or two others. Houston hasn’t been relevant since the late 90’s and although it’s in the 4th largest city in the nation it’s also the third team in Texas and the “least successful” in the last 15 years. Retaining Yao gives the league incentive to keep the Rockets around because you don’t want to piss off the team that opened up the Chinese market or maintains an integral link to it.

If we apply all of those elements to a team then we can go ahead and contract most of them.
OKC gets to go since Seattle hasn’t been relevant for quite some time and all they did was relocate. OKC is a “shitting city” but has good ownership and has 1 title. Their history as the Thunder is minimal.
Minnesota breaks the curve for the fact that within 10+ years they were relevant. They’re cold weather but so aren’t Boston, Philly, and New York.
Stating cold weather climate just smacks of homerism (New York City and Boston are cold weather teams with titles and draw).
Let’s look at Houston -
Mediocre for the better part of 14 years, 2 titles in a history that spans back to being the San Diego Rockets, is the “ugly stepsister” of its two other in-state teams, and has a broken big name player on its roster, not really one to bail them out since he’s off contract as of this season.
