also, anyone annoyed at all the foul calls so far?
i thought playoff fouls were supposed to be slightly less than little touches here and there. no surprise that most of them seem to be going in favor of the bandwagon teams, as well.

Grizz are getting all sorts of messy.
As soon as the Spurs went on a run you can tell they started to get concerned and it’s shaking the young team.
TDS's resident dickhead.
doesn't help that the spurs are basically in this game because of FT shooting
grizz have played good D but the spurs keep getting bailed out—both teams are taking it hard into the paint
click here for: nba playoffs 2010-11 predictions
The Grizz are blowing plenty of free throws
and are turning the ball over at an alarming rate, for a good part of the game. Though the score right now, 94-88, they got their shit back together.

These games so far
have shown just how important it is to have size. Size in the starting lineup, and more on the bench. Some of these bigs don’t have All Star talent, but their size makes them better and more tough. Maybe I’m just stating the obvious, but that’s what I keep thinking while watching these games.

TDS's resident dickhead.

Kind of makes you think how we would have done since we were playing really well. NO is done though, their C got injured, coupled with the West injury, they got problems.
by Rockets4LIFE on Apr 17, 2011 5:38 PM CDT up reply actions
Doesn't make me wonder how we would have done.
Memphis is able to beat San Antonio because they can’t be matched on the inside with their bigs, we don’t have that advantage.
New Orleans is doing well but they won’t keep it up. There’s only so much an incredible point guard can carry a team. We’d have a shot with LA.
Is there a conclusive statement on Gray or is it still speculation? He rolled his ankle something bad.
TDS's resident dickhead.
I dont know about Gray
I saw the replay of the injury, the Pau landed on his ankle and it rolled pretty bad. I think we would have done well against SA though if Lowry was playing, one of the main reasons that SA lost is because Ginobli wasnt playing.
by Rockets4LIFE on Apr 17, 2011 6:24 PM CDT up reply actions
I can't bring myself to agree with that.
Memphis has a beefier front line and they exploited that. We don’t and their playoff defense is to stifle guards and small forwards, not so much dominant centers and PFs.
TDS's resident dickhead.
If we were to win
We basically would have to have great shooting to win that game, we wouldnt be able to win it if we tried to pound it inside. Mind you I didnt say we would win the series but I think the games would be competitive and fun for the most part, maybe a heavy loss in or or 2 games. I still tink with the way we have been playing we would have been able to take 1 or 2 games on our own.

George Karl said after the trade that the Nuggets are better...
What seemed to be a simple reassurance to the fans, proved to be the truth. As much as I hated him and those SuperSonic teams, I have a lot of respect for him, what he’s overcome. He’s a hell of a coach and I will be rooting for him.
Funny how Memphis' ****-up has become Houston's obsession
I dont think they are better now than with him
I think they can build a very good future with what they got from the trade however. A coach isnt going to say they are worse now, that would be a huge moral downer on the players coming in. Thats part of being a good coach though.
by Rockets4LIFE on Apr 17, 2011 9:34 PM CDT up reply actions
This was something I had brought up before that the Nuggets are proving true.
The Nuggets are a better team now because of how they had to build around Anthony. The Denver front office was brilliant. They recognized Anthony was a horribly inefficient scorer but was able to score in a lot of ways. The way to build around this is to surround him with hyper efficient players who maximize their possessions since Anthony will not take 100% of your shots. In doing so, once they jettisoned Anthony they retained all that efficiency, removed the inefficiency, and kept their tough defense and subtracted their weakest defender. So if we look at what the Anthony trade did we see:
1.) Removed an inefficient volume shooter with high usage.
2.) Retained a high efficiency team.
3.) Removed a poor defender at the small forward position.
4.) Imported players who are considered weak defenders but willing to scrap and play defense rather than conserve all of their energy on offense.
5.) Retained rim protectors and big men in general.
Basically, Denver got rid of their black hole superstar and filled that void with more team play. There is also a bit of a prolonged Ewing Effect involved but I think it’s for the better. I’ve always liked me some Danillo Gallinari and I think the Nuggets do as well.
As I say that the announcer shouts “A FOREIGN FACIAL” and I’m convinced it’s no longer basketball on tv but Euro Porn.
TDS's resident dickhead.
Definitely some Ewing effect
and agree with everything you say. A close friend of mine who follows them and lives near Denver has told me that “big shot Chauncey” is not missed either. While he’s a seasoned veteran who’s played in big games, he stagnated their offense. Ty Lawson and Raymond Felton have been remarkable, their spacing is just so much better with more weapons.
Funny how Memphis' ****-up has become Houston's obsession
I agree and disagree, mainly I think that they did the trade because they knew Anthony wanted out, not that he was an ok player
I agree that they did the right move because Anthony wasnt going to stay there. They still could have built a team around him if he chose to stay and I think if he would have wanted to stay, Denver wouldnt even consider the trade they were getting from NY. Denver was still trying very hard to get him to stay even when they knew they had a slim shot or almost none at all and that says a lot as well since they own the team. His star power could have been useful for ticket sales and marketing, but I think they recognized that a player with his quality is extremely hard to get. We’ve been trying to get one and it is near impossible if you dont draft one.
For the future, I think they did a great move and agree with your points but disagree with them in the sense that my personal opinion is that the Denver team with Anothny would have beat the Denver team right now at this minute. But the Denver office did what it could now with the limitations it had (ie Anthony only wanting to go to NY and making it well known) and did a great job with that.
by Rockets4LIFE on Apr 17, 2011 9:58 PM CDT up reply actions
Denver got a king's ransom for Anthony thanks to Prokhorov.
New Jersey kept driving the price up and then New York had to unload about half of its roster for Anthony and Billups. In my opinion, New York raked Denver over the coals. The only thing they lost was some star power but they padded their future and improved on their present. I think if Denver were the pre-trade team in the post season they wouldn’t be as good, the ball movement and cohesion leaves when you have a rock pounder like Anthony.
I agree Denver mostly did it to not lose him for nothing but I also don’t think the front office was doing more than paying lip service when they said they wanted him around. He held the team hostage then pat himself on the back for his behavior. Denver is in a better spot currently and long term because of the deal they did.
TDS's resident dickhead.
If NY won, I would have said Denver is winning today as well for sure
OKC is going to beat Denver tonight pretty well I think
OKC has one hell of a crowd.
So jealous.

Only in the playoffs though unfortunately. Portland has a great crowd too.

I miss the playoffs.
I miss even one Houston team being more than mediocre! Houston gets into their teams when they’re not completely embarrassing.

I cant believe I said that as a Rockets fan but I just feel so bad for Seattle

spurs lost, lakers lost, knicks lost
i really want the knicks to lose their series and for the nuggets to win theirs.

Wow I cant say the Adelman news is a shocker but I was very surprised.
I think he will get hired by a good team, maybe Miami, Boston, or LA, maybe even NY (not a great team) if they fire D’Antoni. I hope he wins a ring because he deserves it.
Heat are killing it. This is highly depressing

I want Atlanta to win
Only because SVG could leave and there would be more drama about Howard leaving.

Exciting day of games
All three are intriguing. I expect SA and LA to bounce back in a big way, and Denver to grab a split.
How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!
Im with you
I think OKC wins their game though. I really want Memphis to pull this one out, hopefully Battier will have some added fuel because of his kid being born a few days ago. Manu is playing though so I wont count on Memphis beating SA.

Manu will get hurt again!
Someone needs to teach him a lesson.
Me against the world is a mismatch in my favor.
thunder really looking in control right now. Interesting

The Memphis San Antonio game is pretty close
I wouldnt put it past Memphis to win this one too
by Rockets4LIFE on Apr 20, 2011 8:29 PM CDT up reply actions
San Antonio is really having trouble with Memphis inside
Tony Allen is playing really well. Memphis up by 5.
Are these spurs announcers or neutral ones? They are awful.
“If you don’t like Ginobili’s game, you don’t like basketball!” Apparently I’m not a fan of basketball anymore.

the announcers are from the spurs
keeps referring to the team as “we”.
Heard that too
I want to hear Bill Worrell commentate a Rockets playoff game, but I’d most likely be at the stadium so I guess I’d never have the oppertunity

this has been great, and it’s awesome that you change the preview by day. I wish I could be more involved but school is intervening. I’ll try to get in here some more in the coming days.
How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!
Thanks a lot man, much appreciated
Dont worry about it, you guys come up with all the interesting pieces that make this blog great. All I am doing is just grunt work so you guys can focus on the more pressing matters for the Rockets. I am more than happy to make the game threads, its been pretty fun for me :) Also life always intervenes at some point, I just havent had too hectic of a schedule these last few weeks.

I like Indiana to win this one tonight
and Philly as well. Call me crazy, but I say all three home teams win. But like drsnay76 I don’t have Portland covering (but still winning). And I guess since I’m picking Indy I don’t have the Bulls covering either.
How many Biletnikoffs does he have? NOT TWO!
I can't believe the amount of interest I've lost in the NBA since the Rockets ended their regular season
It’s somewhat concerning

Jamaal Crawford is a stone cold asshole.
Can’t wait to see how fast SVG is out the door because of this shitty Orlando team’s inability to compete.
TDS's resident dickhead.
That is just one reason why the Orlando series is so interesting for us looking for a new coach
i actually think he is good, it’s not his fault the Orlando GM couldn’t build a solid team around Howard, I would like to see what he does with Morey’s players if he gets another shot at a good team with a good player if we manage to get one.

Did not think that the NY - Bos was going to end in a sweep
Woah

Major roster overhaul to Orlando and plenty of internal problems with no defensive solutions on the wings and at the guard
it was really only a matter of time until an ultra athletic team like the Hawks came in and punished them.

i did not expect boston to sweep NY
nuggets beating OKC would be icing on the cake for me with the whole melo situation. :D
also, loving the grizzlies at the moment. here’s hoping they win tonight and go up 3-1.
i expected these playoffs to be exciting, but i didn’t expect these many upsets from the west. also that atlanta series has me confused. only prediction of mine that’s in danger of being wrong.

What a run by Memphis, leading by 13 going into the 4th
Keep it up Memphis. Also its kind of weird to see so many empty seats at the dallas game. Thats a good thing though :D
Wow what a 3333 BATTIER
20 point lead by Memphis with over 6 minutes to go, it is over, Memphis should be up 3-1 when this game finishes up, what a thrashing.
Ish Smith in the game!!!
If you're a fan of basketball, watch a movie called Sonicsgate. It's free, just google it.
Ish in there breaking it down!
4 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound in just 3 minutes.
Greivis Vasquez and Hamed Haddadi looked like they didn’t want to take orders from Ish.
Fuck those guys, Ish is the Ish! Randolph looked like Ish’s biggest fan on the bench.
I bet Memphis fans were like, “yo! Houston gave us Shane Aaaand this dude!? God Bless Houston!” haha

I didn't expect this much of a fight from Memphis.
I’m not saying I thought they sucked, but come on they’re facing the best team in the West (according to record), and I just figured the Griz inexperience would be exploited by the Spurs.
Fortunately, karma bit Ginobli in the arm, (Aaron Brooks is laughing this entire series) and the Griz are taking advantage and playing much more stronger.
Proud of Memphis in this series.
by Nobody is Better Than Jordan on Apr 25, 2011 9:51 PM CDT reply actions
Yeah,
It’s been kind of awesome to see Z-Bo and Marc Gasol just dominate Duncan and McDyess.
i'm having a hard time deciding
whether i’m enjoying this grizzlies beatdown of the spurs more than i would have enjoyed the rockets losing to the spurs in the first round. currently i’m 50/50 but if the grizz pull through i’ll have to take them.

my predictions have been up and down thus far
+1 point for correct result, +1 for correct score
Predicted (Real)
Bulls 4-0 Pacers (4-1) +1
Heat 4-1 Sixers (4-1) +2
Celtics 4-2 Knicks (4-0) +1
Magic 4-1 Hawks (2-3*) (max of +1)
Spurs 4-2 Grizzlies (2-3*) (max of +1)
Lakers 4-1 Hornets (3-2*) (max of +1)
Blazers 4-3 Mavericks (2-3*) (max of +2)
Thunder 4-3 Nuggets (4-1) +1
So I’ve got 5/8 in the completed series’ and can get a max of 5/8 in the remaining ones.
click here for: nba playoffs 2010-11 predictions
So far my predictions score is the same as yours
Predicted (Real)
Bulls 4-0 Pacers (4-1) +1
Heat 4-0 Sixers (4-1) +1
Celtics 4-0 Knicks (4-0) +2
Hawks 4-2 Orlando (3-2) (max of +2)
Spurs 4-3 Grizzlies (2-3) (max of +2)
Lakers 4-1 Hornets (3-2) (max of +1)
Blazers 2-4 Mavericks (2-3) (max of +2)

haha, you've taken a lead now over me
Magic 4-1 Hawks (2-4) +0
Lakers 4-1 Hornets (4-2) +1
Blazers 4-3 Mavericks (2-4) +0
—
Spurs 4-2 Grizzlies (2-3*) (max of +1)
so now i have 6/14. but i’ll still be cheering the grizzlies!

Hawks 4-2 Orlando (4-2) (2)
Lakers 4-1 Hornets (4-2) (1)
Blazers 2-4 Mavericks (2-4) (+2)
Spurs 4-3 Grizzlies (2-3) (max of +2), but I want Memphis to win too

Gasol with the ballerina-esque OH GOD GO IN shot through the lane.
Look how amazing Memphis is all because they traded Hasheem Thabeet! He clearly was keeping em’ down since the Gasol trade!

I actually heard Gasol learnt alot from HT in way of keeping lions from your flock.
