Nick Nurse, previously coach of the Iowa Energy, has been named head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Interesting bit is that even though the Energy beat the Vipers in the D-League finals last season, he felt that coaching the Vipers gave him a better chance to become an NBA coach. He is cited as saying, " I was really impressed with the Rockets organization and how they have a proven track record with Chris Finch, of putting him in here and bringing him up. My goal every year is to grow as a coach, and I thought this was a great place to do that."
