Paul Pierce?
I read somewere yesterday that the Lakers, Bulls, Spurs,Rockets, and Trailblazers are the teams that's interested in trading for Paul Pierce. Do you think hed be worth it? He can score the ball well hit the the three cary a team when hes hot. He plays pretty good defense...... the only thing is we need to make sure the asking price isnt to high but if its rite should we try to get him?
Lets go rockets!!!

I'd only be for Pierce
if acquiring him was the precursor to acquiring a younger guy to build around.
And as an aside what’s up with Morey and his sudden fascination, with 30 and over superstars?

No.
Paul Pierce in a fine player, but he is too old and it’s not like we have a win now team anyway.
I hate david stern!
My take.
I feel like Paul Pierce is the kind of guy that would give us a go-to scorer and he is a bit of a “do everything” guy, which I like. He may be a massive douchebag but at least he’s a talented one. If there’s a way to get him and retain Kyle Lowry and Samuel Dalembert I think it works out for us overall.
Color me hopeful but I would hope a deal for Pierce would also include Rajon Rondo if we were to give up Lowry. It might be a little bit of that major offer I had mentioned before of Lowry, Scola, Dragic/Lee, maybe tag in Kevin Martin and you make it a swap for Pierce, Allen, Rondo. At that point it’s an all or nothing move by Morey that retains a franchise piece in Rajon. I think you could do a lot worse than that. Plus, it takes 20+ million off the books, the Celtics get someone who makes up fro Garnett’s drop off, and get some younger players, which they want desperately.

I don't think the Celtics will trade Rondo
Given all the “it’s Rondo’s team now” stuff that’s been going on.
Also, that would make the trade even harder to balance salary-wise.
The Rockets are below the cap and can accommodate wiggle room.
Add to it that a Rondo for Lowry swap injects more life into the offense without a drastic drop off in rebounding or assists and I think it’s moot to say they wouldn’t move Rondo. Especially when the hot button topic in the offseason was some anger from Rondo that his name surfaced in Chris Paul trade rumors.
pierce and martin would be fun to watch
with lowry running the show…. interesting

Funny coming from a guy advocating the youth movement
Paul Pierce being 34 and Ray Allen would be essentially a rental and all, It’d be a pretty meh move for a trade like that
I advocate a youth movement, the owner clearly isn't inclined to let it happen.
I figure if you’re not gonna get off the pot, shit. I still believe in a youth movement but if it’s not gonna happen why not get some cap space and possibly force one?
could've done that with Chris Paul
Not that it was gonna happen, but hey, It’s not like we didnt try
As soon as I heard that they might trade some of their players
I thought about Pierce and Allen. Garnett is a no and I don’t think we have what it takes to get Rondo. Allen is on a 1 year deal but Pierce has a lot of money left. I just don’t know if the Celtics would want Martin and Scola. Not the kind of players you want to use to rebuild.

Considering we have Lowry, draft picks, and other youngsters (mediocre as they may be) I think we have things to offer.
without a doubt

Not no..
but no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as you put it….
This is not a guy you want to build around and he’s got what 2 more years and another 30 million owed to him??? I think it would be in the best interest right now to just ride this whatever it is you want to call it right now and don’t committ to an old dude who’s deteriorating. It’s all about positioning yourself for this summer’s draft and keeping the fliexibility you have money wise. Trade Martin and every forseeable pick you have for a higher pick and a bad salary player for that team. Retain Courtney Lee. With that pick, either take one of the big men or star-studded wing player best player and Daryl’s good at evaluating talent. Scola, if you can’t get exprings or anything, cut ties with him because you have D-Mo waiting. If that early pick you get is a wing player, then use the team option on the bear moving forward to next season.
Paul Pierce is going to do nothing but collect 15 million a year for 2 more seasons and sit at home in June and watch OKC go to the finals. He’s not a guy who’s going to put us over the top at this point.

Nobody....
but why tie up 15 mil per for 2 more seasons to a guy who’s old and doesn’t put you over the top? That’s just making a trade just to make a trade.

For me it all boils down to the deal in totality.
It’s doubtful that if the Rockets dealt it would be solely for Pierce. My frame of mind is that there is a play to land someone like Rondo in all this too. Take on a big contract, send back some productive older players, a pick or two, and a youngster and get what you can back for expiring deals too.
Your entire premise here is built around Rondo being better than Lowry
I don’t buy it. Maybe you see something I don’t, but I don’t think Rondo is any better than Kyle.
Wrong premise.
My premise is that pesky “gotta give to get” mentality. Kyle is more productive on offense and a little lighter on the assists than Rondo and the defense is near as makes no difference, so to me, the C’s do it to upgrade offense. Throw in Martin and Scola and you wind up upgrading their SG and PF situations, then toss in a pick and you give them something younger, why not toss em’ C-Buddy too since he’s a cyst on the team (in my opinion). See about snagging Pierce and Rondo out of the deal and if you can get an expiring contract or two like Allen and Jermaine O’Neal. I truly believe there’s something in there for us.
So my premise is actually built around the needs of both teams rather than any construing that one player is better than another.
I wouldn't take that deal at all.
I’d rather trade Bud to either LA team for a 2012 pick. Martin, Scola, and Dragic are the package deal that will go. But I would not do this deal with Boston because we could do better than something like that. Rondo, Pierce, Allen, and O’Neal just won’t win us anything more here than they are with Boston. O’Neal and Allen are expiring and likely wont re-sign. Pierce’s value by then would not be enough to get us anything we could use. Rondo I’m ok with but how effective would he be without GREAT pieces around him to dish to? I just think a deal like the one you are proposing would be total disaster and fans would be calling for someone’s head.
I hate david stern!
It depends on what you're expecting out of it, cause I think you're missing some angles.
Allen and O’Neal are stop gaps for this season. Allen takes Martin’s spot with a more consistent shot and he’s been performing this season. O’Neal slotted behind Dalembert and offers us the option to put Hill back at the 4. The best part? They expire to mitigate Paul Pierce’s salary intake this season, we get out from under Scola’s contract outpacing his production. So what do you get out of the deal I proposed? I believe Rondo is a great PG independent of his supporting crew. You can slot Rondo in with a closer in Pierce (Something this squad doesn’t have and needs desperately), a floor spacing shooter in Allen, Dalembert continues steady production, slot Patterson or Hill at the 4, and you have O’Neal, you clear out some clutter at the 3 and retained Lee.
Packaging Budinger for a 2012 pick from either LA team will return a 2nd rounder or a super protected 1st, not worth it to me.
It’s only a disaster if we neglect the fact that we stay consistent/slightly improve this year all for potential to get this franchise going somewhere.
Looking at available free agents coming up in the coming years
I don’t see anything worth even taking a look at that would improve our team enough to get us a ring. I’m looking 3-4 years down the line when Pierce’s contract will have expired and/or when Rondo is about to expire and potentially become disgruntled (he seeems like one of those kind of guys to pull a Chris Paul/Carmelo Anthony). And who’s to say Hill pans out by then? We would likely have Lee, Patterson, Rondo, and what else? I think the issue with your proposed deal is an extreme case of win now. And if we don’t win enough this year with that team then we suddenly find ourselves is a shitty situation. What exactly do you do in year 2 of this kind of mess?
I hate david stern!
Color me optimistic but I wanted the deal w/o Pierce.
I wanted to gut this roster for the summer/draft.
I'm a big fan of Rondo too...
and would be a big fan of Boston’s expirings, except for 2 things:
The marquis free agents likely aren’t coming here this summer
and the other decent fre agents are all past their prime.
To me, the best move Morey made in the abbreviated offseason last month was the one he didn’t make. No, not Pau trade, but the use of the amnesty clause. Obviously the lottery guys we acquired aren’t going to be a part of this franchise moving forward, but we took a flier on them, whatever, it’s done with. But.. we get more flexibility. To me, Houston is in great shape to be a huge player this draft night. This is one of the deepest drafts in recent memory. I look at a team like Detriot who will likey have a #5 or #6 pick… They have young bright young guys like Knight, Jerebko, Daye, and Greg Monroe. They also have guys like Ben Gordon who’s making 12 million for another 2 years and Villanueva who’s making 8 million for another 2 years. I would go all in if I was Morey and give them Martin (who’s going to make 12 but expire next summer) and 3 picks for either Gordon or Villanueva and their probably top 6 pick. You give Detriot more picks in a loaded draft, and Martin, who’s still productive and has a 12 million dollar expiring. And like I said, retaining Lee, waiving Scola…. You’ve got your choice of 3 big men:Drummond, Sullinger, Anthony Davis or choice of 3 star wing players:Robinson, Perry Jones, Harrison Barnes, etc… Plus, tons of cap room, all you would be doing is re-signing Lee, signing a rookie, signing D-Mo, and picking up the bear’s option. You can rid all the 09ers payroll by letting them walk, plus amnesty Scola, plus the room you already have.
If you’re going to invest in a player who can throw a screw into all your flexibility, it can’t be Pierce IMO. Because you know that probably Dragic goes to and Flynn cannot be relied upon as a backup. Ish Smith yes, Johnny Flynn no.
temporary avatar change...
For me I approach it from this point of view:
Pierce might be owed for a couple years, but whatever, I’ll take it. If we accept that no big FA is going to come here in the summer, damn the cap flexibility, right? The point of being under is to sign guys and if we can’t sign useful guys, screw saving on to the money.
I would rather see if you can package Scola for something rather than just jettison him, it’s that maximizing value discussion, I think I had it with you where you said you’d rather get something for him than let him go, not sure though. I feel like Boston might be in a desperate enough situation that they’d let go of Pierce, expirings and Rondo. I mean it’d be nice for us to advertise to free agents that this team is run by All-NBA 1st Team PG Rajon Rondo, no? That’s worth something. Tag on Pierce in his waning years (Still productive, still a go-to player, injuries are a concern but come on, we’re Houston, you come here and you get half your salary in injury pay and nice suits) and some cap flexibility and I think we’re not in a horrible spot. Plus, like you said (and I agree) retaining that amnesty clause was huge. If Pierce gets hurt again, amnesty him off the deal.
As for the flexibility question, I think part of it is you can package those picks up in a deal, an attempt to move up, or use them on a point guard and other guy you need. I think if you’re the Rockets and Les won’t let you get your ass kicked for a high pick, you gotta pull the all-in move because the wheels will fall off shortly afterwards and your boss will have to deal with it, right? It’s the same theory around Dwight Howard rental, go for it, if he bolts, rebuild.
could pierce attract more stars to come here?

I dont think they would trade Pierce
watched the game today he put the team on his back and closed out the wizards with Rondo out of the line up and Allen getting injured early. That said pierce is the only one i would take and it would be to match up with a Star type player we cud get prob as a FA
