Rockets not picking up options on....
"Flynn, Thabeet and Williams will be unrestricted free agents."
Well, that solves that. I know that I just recently read about how some of these pieces were picked up more or less as effects of other main causes, but it's still interesting to me how little playing time Thabeet received and that the "T Will Experiment" is now officially over. I guess now this is one less question to be answered about the team moving forward.

hill wants his contract extended what do yall think gonna happen bros? and lee too
put a D*ck in ur ear and F*ck wat u hurd
Lee has a better chance
But I think he will still become a RFA cause thats what the Rockets do. It makes no sense to extend his contract and tie up money when you dont know whats going to happen this summer.
Hill might get his option picked up. Im 50/50 on that one. Is he worth $3.6M next year??
I think he is
I wouldn’t pay terribly more than that, but I think he produces enough to justify that contract. He plays “solidly” off the bench. That, and who knows, maybe (just maybe) he’ll progress further in his development.

2009 Draft class is full of busts
by Carlos_HoustonSportsFanatic on Jan 25, 2012 9:12 AM CST reply actions
and people were talking about this past year's draft class.
I would take it any day over 2009.
by PhotoMoney21 on Jan 25, 2012 9:14 AM CST up reply actions
Wait and see.
Most draft classes are full of players who don’t pan out.

i'd say all draft classes are like that
’09 had many busts. It also had Griffin, Harden, Curry, Rubio, Evans (he still counts), guys like DeJuan Blair, Ty Lawson, Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holliday…
‘09 was a very good year, I think. It’s just that teams are really terrible at drafting, and they fall in love with longshot “high upside” projects over established players (the narrative concerning Curry was a spectacular example. Here was a player who was one of the most efficient guards in college, and yet going into the draft he was labelled an inefficient volume scorer because that was what people expect of shooting guards coming out of mid-majors).
Every draft has a ton of lottery busts and a bunch of “surprises” coming out of the later picks.

Nope...
2009 draft class is full of players who didnt get a fair shake at all. Thabeet is the only bust. Flynn was drafted to a team that also drafted two other pg’s if Im not mistaken. Then he gets traded to Houston who already has 2 good PG’s and Courtney Lee. He’s gonna go somewhere and be sucessful I would bet.
TWILL was doing a damn good job in NJ. But it just so happen to be during a season when the Nets were going after either Lebron or Joe Johnson or Carmelo or Bosh or Wade. So even though Williams was doing extremely well as a newcomer, his fate was sealed before he ever had a chance. Then to save face, the Nets go out and spend big money on Travis Outlaw. It was a “See we spend on trash, we couldve made you guys Billionaires” type of move in my opinion. So TWill was pushed to the back. He avg’d 14pts, 7rebs, 5assts the last two months of his rookie season. Why couldnt the Nets be happy with a new player doing so well? So then PRIDE takes over. First it was the dunk on Lopez in practice. (Still dont see why that was so bad). Then you send the guy to the d-league as PUNISHMENT. (Not what the d-league is for). He avgs 28pts 11rebs 10assts. They bring him back Avery Johnson just doesnt like the guy.
I feel bad for the 2009 draft class. They were pretty good. They just didnt get a chance. Or went to teams that didnt want/need them to start with. I feel the same way about the 2011 class. Good players. They just went to teams that didnt really need/want them…

I think that this may be a result of the "draft the best player available" theory
instead of drafting for need.

MN did draft Rubio, and brought in Ridnour, but Flynn got a real shot.
TWill was doing TWill things in NJ. He’s hugely talented, and I’d like to see him get a real chance. And he will. He’s a guy who really has “best player on a bad team” potential.
As for Thabeet, I guess it just isn’t there.

I think "he" is more inclined to say it.

So the question becomes
do you trade them or let the contracts run out for cap space? Assuming the Rockets keep Scola and Martin, they’ll be around 39 million dollars before there’s a decision on Hill, Lee and Dragic.

I think they'll let the contracts run out
Unless they are included in a deal that gets us a legit star, there’s no need to tie up our cap space on more projects

Hoopshype says Dalembert has a team option
do they have to pick that up by today as well?
by twinkilling0303 on Jan 25, 2012 10:59 AM CST reply actions
No, that should be decided in June.
This is the early option/extension deadline for those on rookie-scale contracts.
Oh ok, I see
so that would mean a Patterson decision as well right? Says he also has a team option for the next two years

Edited your story to include a link, Photo
Yeah, this should be unsurprising. As I wrote a few days ago, Hill is really the only one who has a chance of earning his contract back, I think, and so no surprise that they’re on the fence with him.
The Chron article also included this:
The Rockets also face a Wednesday deadline to agree to a contract extension for fourth-year guard Courtney Lee, but the sides are far apart. The Rockets are more likely to allow Lee to become a restricted free agent next summer.
Given Morey’s established pattern (Lowry, Brooks), it shouldn’t be surprising that the Rockets aren’t very likely to extend Lee. This is actually something that hurts Hill, I think, since his option is actually more than the qualifying offer for Lee. The Rockets will have a little over $14 million in cap space next year if they make the qualifying offer for Lee and decline Hill, whereas they’ll have a little less than $14 million if they pick up Hill’s option and let Lee become a UFA.
Thanks!

Westbrook stays in OKC
Love stays in Minnesota…. Who says small markets can’t keep stars?
temporary avatar change...
Love is gone after 3 years
it’s gonna be the same old same old. Stars will sign an extension after their rookie contract is up…then when the extension runs out, they’re gone.
by twinkilling0303 on Jan 25, 2012 12:42 PM CST up reply actions
That's MN's own fault.
They’re filling up the building more and more. They wouldn’t go 5 years, even though Love asked for it.
"Each in turn... volunteered his suggestions, his invaluable suggestions."
I heard the opposite
That they basically told him to pick his number of years and opt out clauses, and they were fine with it.

Sad to see Williams not getting his option picked up.
He showed he can handle second unit point guard duties swimmingly in the half court but he got pretty well screwed in not taking him back on. He was productive in his minutes.
As for Hill, extend him cheap. He’s worth what he gets paid, is a 4/5 and showed improvement. Consistency will come as his position and minutes stay set.

How do you think they'll react to the news?
You gotta feel for them, they’ll be unemployed this summer and won’t get enough minutes the rest of the season to showcase their "talents

If you're T-Will you respond to butthurt from your fans that your coach didn't play you.

Not a surprise.
T-Will underperfomed this year, honestly.

If we don't keep Courtney Lee I will be pretty upset.
What’s the point of even getting somewhat attached to any of these players if they’re all just going to be gone sooner rather than later?
Sonicsgate: A movie about how the Sonics were stolen from Seattle.
That's honestly how I've felt the last 3 years.
The last two season, especially. We have had “free agent fever” ever since people started honing in on Bosh a couple years back. How many Rocket’s fans were looking forward to that, regardless of the Scola v. Bosh debate? It’s been understood for a while that Daryl Morey looks at every player as an “asset”, rather than a cornerstone or piece to a contending team. While this is hard to grasp as a fan, from a basketball standpoint you have to do what you have to do- and getting a big name to play for you is what you’ve got to do. That being said, Morey knew it would require assets to chase a good trade (like we almost pulled off with Pau) or it was the free agency route (which failed with Bosh). Now that we went failed free agency and then to failed trade, it’s back to free agency to lure in the next camel that can carry the Rockets.
Honestly, I’d just be VERY interested to see what this team looks like in 2 seasons.
