Just putting an idea out there

Pau Gasol for Goran Dragic Luis Scola and Hasheem Thabeet.

Why rockets do it: They get a good big man who is pretty close to a star and retain kevin martin

Why Lakers do it: They get a pretty good underrated PG in Dragic and a replacement for pau and they can decline Hasheem thabeets option in Free agencey so theyll have more money

Lowry/Flynn

Martin/Lee

Parsons/Budinger

Gasol/Patterson

Dalembert/Hill

it works on the trade machine... http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7howbfa

whould you do it?

If I'm the Rockets, this trade is a no-brainer.

If I’m the Lakers, I say no. They are not fools. They would demand Lowry (and pieces) for the All-Star big man. Lowry is the answer to their PG woes. I live in LA, and the Lakers only care about championships. Dragic and Scola will not help them win one.

Scola could have a fresh start and Goran could eventually take over for DFish,

Not going to happen ever.

1) They can get Pau for a lot more from other teams.
2)Why settle for a role playing PG, an old declining rapidly PF, and a bust when we showed during the offseason that we would trade Scola, Martin, Dragic, and a pick for Pau.

This makes no sense at all.

I think the only way we get Pau

is because of a Dwight deal. And I honestly don’t know if the Lakers would even do a Bynum & Gasol trade for him. That’s the only scenario I see us getting him, so I’d say it’s about a 25% chance.

scola has shown he can be very good

and an upgrade at PG is what LA needs, and the extra cap space and pick wont hurt, wonder what c lee would do do this deal?

Courtney Lee makes more sense with Kobe Bryant on the team

by VBG on Jan 26, 2012 5:53 PM CST up reply actions

You send them a pittance and call it good enough.

Dragic is a full court point guard and a back up. Scola is a downgrade from Pau (Defensively in a major way), and Thabeet is a non-factor salary dump. You expect LA to deliver a star (Struggling or not, he’s a star) for a general downgrade and 5 mil in salary cap space?

YES!

Rockets win hands down! The league revolves around us and this makes all the sense in the world.

If the Lakers

realize their financial situation isn’t favorable for offering a huge contract to Dwight this summer, their best bet is to acquire him at the deadline. The same way Houston feels about Scola this season, Laker fans feel similar to Pau. He’s not being used optimally in doo doo Brown’s joke of an offense. What history tells us is that 3 things are a priority when a star player gets traded. Solid players with favorable contracts, expirings, draft picks…. Houston fits that bill, but personally I think a few other organizations can make better offers for Pau.

Sure

If the Lakers were honestly content trading a star for a bunch of second tier pieces. Thabeet’s a bust. Scola’s clearly on the decline. Goran is a bench option.

The Lakers can get a heck of a lot more for Gasol. Cap space for them isn’t as big a deal as it is for other teams. Just like Dallas, their pockets run as deep as they need to.

Hey guys, Portland fan here, just stopping by and wanted to propose a trade idea...

But I don’t feel like it warrants it’s own thread, so if you don’t mind a slight hijacking of this thread here’s the proposal:

Portland Trades: Gerald Wallace, Nolan Smith, Chris Johnson and a 2012 2nd round pick for Hasheem Thabeet, Terrence Williams, Goran Dragic, Patrick Patterson and New York’s 2012 1st round pick.

I think this trade would greatly improve the Rockets starting five very strong and very well balanced. Lowry, Martin, Wallace, Scola and Dalembert would be a nice balance of scoring, defense, shooting, athleticism and rebounding.

So what do you think?

I say no, but thank you.

Wallace is a nice piece and could help us make the playoffs this year, but I think the NY pick combined with Patterson and future cap space is too valuable to give up for him. We’re loaded at small forward anyway.

Budinger,

technically Morris, and he’ll be called up whenever he gets back from his ankle injury.

Rockets have something of a glut at the wings — Martin, Lee, Parsons, Budinger, Morris, Dragic sees time there, and Williams is competing for minutes, as well.

by Only_A_Lad on Jan 27, 2012 3:27 PM CST up reply actions

Will you take Chase Budinger too?

You got a deal.

by BD34 on Jan 27, 2012 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

Or what about Memphis' 2013 pick?

Either one I’d accept in the place of the NY pick. They’re all most likely going to be mid to late teens picks.

by gtbassett on Jan 28, 2012 1:32 PM CST up reply actions

we traded that one to minn in the brad miller deal i think

what is the main reason for the trade, what if it was scola instead of PPat and the pick?

by BuckeyeBob on Jan 28, 2012 6:06 PM CST up reply actions

The reason for this trade is that Wallace has an opt out option after this year.

And it looks like he’s going to take it to get his last big pay day. Combine this with the fact that Batum’s rookie contract is up after this season, the Blazers have to choose between Wallace and Batum for the future of the SF position. Personally, I like Batum better, which means I think the Blazers should flip Wallace for some assets and preferably a pick.

I have no interest in taking on Scolas contract considering his age and declining play unless we were making a deal that included Kevin Martin as well as Scola, and we weren’t giving up Aldridge, which I doubt you’d be interested in.

And 2013 top 12 protected 1st round pick I will accept.

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

Essentially PatPat and a 1st for 3 months of Wallace

I love Crash, but I don’t think it’s quite worth it.
