Anyone Here Interested In Wilson Chandler?
He's poised to make his return to the NBA shortly, and I feel like he'd be a great addition to our roster. When taking in to consideration that Dwight Howard is probably not coming to Houston, I feel like using that cap space we currently have on a 2-way wing who is still only 25 years old would be a wise move because of his all-star potential.
He's 6'8", can score from the outside, has an ok handle and rebounds and passes the ball well. Denver currently holds his bird rights, but since they recently inked deals with Afflalo and Gallo, I figure they're not looking to keep him (although they may use him in a sign-and-trade). They also have incredible chemistry right now, and adding a player who would get a lot of touches seems to throw off the balance of their offense.
His presence on the wing as a scorer also makes Kevin Martin, a potentially very valuable (and older) trade chip, expendable. In an ideal world, I see us picking up Chandler and then trading Martin and Scola for Stoudemire, leaving us with Lowry / Dragic, Lee / Budinger, Chandler / Parsons (haha), Stoudemire / Patterson, and Dalembert / Hill.
What do you guys think about Morey going after Wilson Chandler?

I wouldn't mind if we grabbed him for the right price.
Would probably be a better defender over Bud, and probably not as streaky offensively.
Could honestly start on quite a few teams.
"Hakeem couldn't kick your ass cuz you were too
close kissin his!"- Sir Charles to Kenny Smith.
I'd give him $7-10 million a year
hoping for the former, would be willing to pay for the latter. He has a lot of skills, and like I said, he’s as young as Lowry.

I'd go after him
However, about Amare – DO NOT WANT
I'd still like to see the rox

I like the way this is written AND the idea it suggests.
What makes it more awesome is I sat there and looked it over in traditional law format (Issue, Reason, Analysis, Conclusion) and you were spot on. Rec’d and I would love to see Wilson Chandler in a Rockets uniform.

well I was considering law school
decided in favor of grad school instead. but thanks. I think its kind of a stretch that he ends up here but you never know…

yes i think it would be smart to go after him
but what would happen to bud?
Go Rockets!

Woops, unintentional post. I would love to see wilson chandler on our team.
I think it would fix our SF situation, give us a solid starter. Then you could choose between a promising rookie in morris, a versatile player in parsons or a good scorer off the bench in budinger. I would feel good with a starting lineup of dalembert, martin, lowry, scola and chandler. Good mix of young, athletic players, with a solid veteran center/PF tandem
yeah
Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Cleveland ? Boston?
Wilson is a solid player, and probably an excellent secondary target to get a legit 2 way starter. However given that our 3 position is not only currently crowded, but also has some what of of a heir apparent in Marcus Morris(not sure how that experiment is going, but I cant imagine not even giving him a chance to play before deciding on bring in another wing), it’s probably not something to pursuit unless you’re pretty confident that the rest of the ducks falls in line
I also would not call Wilson Chandler a scorer per se, he is about as much of a scorer as Courtney Lee, not exactly one to rely on for points. His times at New York, he got mostly set shots and clean up points. I’d say he’s more great role player than all star potential at this point.
I’d be thrilled if he is a rocket, he’s a multitool player that contribute multiple categories like a Battier, but doesnt really solve the without a franchise piece problem. I’m sure that’s priority 1 on the Rocket’s list, and mean while, Chandler will have multitude of suitors
He'd be a guy that we should work a sign and trade with Denver for.
Maybe add a third team. This would be a great opportunity to clear up some of the crowded spots in our roster and make ourselves better at the same time.

Two things:
1) Don’t want Stoudemire. He’s clearly on the way down. I’d rather take my chances on a different “star” player.
2) Chandler is decent, but he’s more promise than production. He falls in love with his pull-up jumper far too often, isn’t a good defender and is a fairly inefficient player. I always hesitate to take a chance on an Isaiah pick, anyway.

I thought that was his selling point.
I mean, I haven’t watched him play, but I thought he was an above-average defender.

Well, comparing him to some of the best SF defenders in the league he doesn't stack up well.
Lebron’s Defensive Winshares: 5.3
Andre Iguodala’s: 3.4
Metta World Peace’s: 3.2
Wilson Chandler’s: 9.5
Lebron’s Defensive Rating: 102
Andre Iguodala’s: 104
Metta World Peace’s: 105
Wilson Chandler’s: 108.5

Maybe I'm being stupid.
Doesn’t more win shares mean you’re a better defender?

that number is a bit off
His number is more around the 0.9 territory
What the hell?
I swore I put .9..

He's Like Batum
Rep of a good defender.
Stats of a mediocre one.
My mistake
Replace “good” with “great” about his defense. He’s not great, but he’s good enough to make a difference. I just see so much potential in his game that hasn’t been fulfilled. He’s a nice piece, but he’s not an answer.

or, to look at it differently,
he has potential that hasn’t been realized because of his situation in the NBA. First, you put him in a D’Antoni system that does more to cover up for player’s shortcomings (by jacking shots up quickly) than it does for developing players. Then, you look at his time in Denver, which was short-lived and a weird situation because of the large amount of players acquired in that trade. I think that with McHale, Chandler would stand a solid chance of making a big leap forward.

Defense is so hard to judge.
First, not many people really pay attention to defense as much as they do offense, and there are differences between on ball and off ball defenders. You can have a guy who can make it so his player doesn’t get the ball, but when his player does he isn’t a good defender, but then there’s players the other way around. Add in lateral quickness and athleticism and you have a tough time deciding on how good a player is on defense.
It’s just really hard to judge.

1) regarding Amare, I really don’t think his decline is as bad as you think. I feel like Carmelo has taken away from his game so much that it makes it look like he’s in a sharp decline. Also, Amare has always been a high-level player with a big time point guard, and Lowry would be deadly with Amare in the pick-and-roll.
2) Chandler is a promising player, but I think his frequent use of his jumper is a result of D’Antoni’s offense. He is a good defender, and the efficiency is something I think a good point guard limiting his touches and a more rigorous coach would change.

So here is the real problem
Chandler is a restricted free agent, and i don’t think denver will fail to match. we need to make an offer which locks in Denver but leaves us the option to amnesty scola to offer Howard a max contract in the case that he ends up with us. I think if we land him we are a contender for Howard no doubt.
Good post.
Chandler is a pretty good player, although his free throw rate is worryingly low. I like the idea, but think it won’t happen. The problems are that (1) he’s good, but he’s not that much better than Parsons and Budinger, (2) Denver will probably match any reasonable offer, (3) I think Morey wants maximum cap flexibility for the summer.
If Amare has
a penetrating point guard and a big man behind him to clean up his defense, he can be an impactful player. He’s also a wild card, when he’s not happy, his play sucks. He’s not happy because he doesn’t have Steve Nash, doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing, and is getting booed. A change of scenery could be huge for him once again attaining that high level of play.
temporary avatar change...
I don't know why he'd leave Phoenix.
I mean sure, you were in a lot of trade rumors…but they were offering you the same money as New York, and you had STEVE NASH! His comments were pretty awful though, they were something along the lines of “I had New York in mind from the day I was drafted.” No reason to throw Phoenix under the bus like that.
