First off, let me say I love things like statistical analytics, predictive analysis and betting on probability when it's in your favor. So I'm a fan of people like Billy Beane and Daryl Morey. I know some people criticize analytics in sports but I like it.
Morey shakes things up and takes risks. Think about it. He just lost Dragic, Scola, Lowry and Dalembert among others. Many people said he was nuts.
You blow up a team that was pretty good and conventional wisdom says you need 100 years to rebuild your team and you have to go through a slow cookie cutter rebuilding process. Not so with Morey. In a year he has a team that can be just as good as the last one or even better.
You take risks and bet on probability and good things can happen.
Look at other teams like Cleveland Cavs. Since Lebron left, they're now in the "rebuilding stage" and they say it will be a slow process. This is the cookie cutter approach.
So I think this makes Daryl Morey one of the best GM's in baskeball or at least the most exciting.
Look at the debacle in Orlando with Dwight Howard. Orlando never stopped and said, what can we get for Dwight. All they thought about is how can we keep Dwight and how can we make him happy. They should have traded him to the Charlotte Bobcats if they could have got a great return for him. Forget where he wants to play. But of course, he ends up with the Lakers so let the "rebuilding process" begin in Orlando.
