Lowry+Dalambert for Rajon Rondo

Celtics fan here guys. Our team needs a young, healthy big man to run the floor and rebound.

Right now it's our biggest problem and we want a shot at a title with this old core- we just can't rebound enough to make our number 1/2 defense effective enough this season. We are willing to give up a lot to get a rebounder.

Here's the question from Celtics fans;

Would the Rockets trade Lowry+Dalambert for Rajon Rondo, JO (expiring contract) and Greg Steimsma?

We need a decent guard back to score/pass and we MUST have Lowry to go with Dalambert.

Some C's fans want Scola (even though most of us HATE him lol).

So to summarise:

Rondo+Jermanine Oneal+Greg Steimsma

for

Lowry+ Dalambert.

Would the Celtics be offering enough or would the Rockets ask for a 2nd round pick or something too?

Just Imagine Rondo passing to your 3 point shooters....

This trade couldn't be made till March 1st because of Dalambert+Steimsmas contracts.

Thanks for your replies.

I can't remember who on this forum....

…last year stated Rondo was a superior PG, especially over Lowry but they ate crow last year and they’re doing it this year. I said last year towards the end of the season that Lowry > Rondo and I think I’ve been pretty much right this season statistically speaking.

Rondo SUCKS and can’t hit free throws and blows layups. Kyle is much more of an impact player, aside from the stats.

I don't think the Celtics would throw in any first round picks, perhaps another young guard like Etwaun moore?

I just thought this might work for you guys because it sounds like the Rockets are going at Kaman really hard.
Rondo+Kaman in the mix with you guys would probably be a positive?

You're gonna need to wine and dine me before you try to f*ck me.

I like Rondo (That hurt to type) but I’m not shipping out our starting PG (All-Star caliber) and the man who fixed our defense for Jermaine O’Neal’s expiring corpse and an untested young player who was undrafted. We already have Greg Smith on the roster who is younger and projected to have a fantastic ceiling.

celtics fan here as well.

and I posted already in our site that this is a tough call. Although Rondo and Lowry are all star calibers, adding Dalembert with be to tough for Houston, as he is playing at a very high level right now.

And epsecially if it’s for Jermaine’s corpse, hate to say it as I was a big JO fan when he was JO.

I suggested that it should be Rondo + Clips 1st for Lowry, Thabeet and Rocket’s first.

I think that’s a fair deal. You guys get an All Star PG who, if teamed up with young legs who can run on breaks could be devastating, which you guys have in Kevin Martin, Chandler Parson, P-Pat and T-Will.

It will at the expense of a near all star level PG, a project center, who I’m really high on given if he’s introduced to a certain role and a little downgrade on the draft but still be in the first round.

I think this is a little more fair deal than getting Dalembert along with it.

It's also a lateral move at best

No thanks.

The problem is

Rondo is better than Lowry in some areas, but is substantially worse in others. Lowry has learned to shoot, and appears to be a reliable late game/late shot clock shooter. You can’t back off Lowry and stop his drive, because he’ll nail a 3.

Rondo is almost untenable on a contender due to his shooting flaws.

For some reason im kinda on the fence on this one

But in your opinion, who would you say is the overall better point guard at this point?

I may slightly lean Rondo

But the second you factor in contracts, it is Lowry by about 17 miles.

Offense aside...

This is pretty interesting in that you can make a case for either as the best defensive PG in the league, with Lowry the best in the West and Rondo in the East.

But yeah. In offense, when they both (only)made a living penetrating in the paint… Rondo did better but now that Lowry added range, it may have turned things to his favor. I think Lowry just needs to be more consistent offensively.

no

maybe (A BIG MAYBE) lowry and hill for rondo! the only reason i would do that is because rondo has star power and the rockets will be better known as a good team to the nba. and this is also if im planning to upgrade our sf position bigtime

Soooo.....

We would then have the same problem if we gave up Dalembert. On top of that you would like us to give up arguably our best player? No thank you.

You would have to toss in someone else, too.

You get JO's expiring deal and the money to get another player you want (Gasol down the road?)

Pair Rondo with Gasol possibility?

I guess the general consensus is Rockets fans aren’t interested which is fair enough.
Celtics fans had argued about this with most people on the fence, very polarizing argument.
C’s fans either love Rondo or hate him.

If the Rockets start losing this trade might be more appealing

Jermaine O’Neal is really pretty bad though. Stiemsma might be good at some point, but is very raw.

by ehburrus on Feb 13, 2012 9:53 AM CST up reply actions

Also, this trade doesn't work at all salary wise.

Even if you picked up Thabeet it still wouldn’t work.

Also, we just signed Greg Smith, who is in some ways very similar to Stiemsma (undrafted, potentially good defensive center).

by ehburrus on Feb 13, 2012 9:57 AM CST up reply actions

Then C's throw in one more player (perhaps a young big- Steimsma?) to match salaries

Rondo (10 Million)
Jermaine (6.2 million expiring)
Steimsma (760K)
1st round pick gtd (1 million )

Lowry (5.75 million)
Dalambert (7 Million)

this season you’re taking on 16.95 million and losing 12.75 million,
leaving 4.75 million more on your side with 6 million of that coming off next year, and one million coming in with the draft pick….
that’s a minor change and now it works.

by Chambers on Feb 13, 2012 6:35 PM CST up reply actions

Not really.

Rockets are taking in more than 125% of what they’re putting out.
