Was going to post this in the All-Star blog but wanted to open a new discussion on this topic. I did some research on Yahoo Sports so I don't have the actual numbers for JLin as a starter. He might even be more efficient as a starter. One of the criteria I use to measure a player's scoring ability is how many shot attempts he needs to get his points. If one gets 20-25 shots per game and only gets 20-25 points, it's not very efficient obviously. So I took the total points a player scored for last season and divided it by his total shot attempts (since this will account for someone who gets to the line a lot but shoots a low percentage from the field and for guys who take and make a lot of 3's). Here are my results for these prominent wing players (can't compare with C and PFs since they get higher percentage looks) :
JLin: 1.34 points per shot attempt
Melo: 1.21
Kobe: 1.21
D-Wade: 1.29
D-Rose: 1.23
Lebron: 1.44
Durant: 1.43
Westbrook: 1.23
Nash: 1.39
CP-3: 1.34
Rockets ex-PGs:
Dragic: 1.29
Lowry: 1.31
One can see that JLin is in pretty good company there. He is also more efficient than the Rockets previous PGs. If someone can post his efficiency as a starter (I think it's even more efficient than 1.34), then that would be great. Thanks for reading this post. Love to hear everyone's comments on this topic. Sorry if I left out your favorite wing player in this post but feel free to include their numbers in the comments section.
