i try to write as short as possible
Here we go again, we entered the 4 Q with a double digit lead, Hawks already waved the white flag and benched Al Hortfod, so we went without Harden and Asik. Within 4 minutes, our lead was already shed to a single digit and we were forced to put Asik and Harden on the floor.
This really worried because our schedule is loaded with B2Bs
Fortunately in the next game vs Hornets, there was a breath of fresh air . at the 4qt Paterson came off the bench and went nuts. For the first time we didn't need asik to maintain our lead. Ppat was definetely an upgrade to our usual bench. The fact that Robin Lopez was already benched also helped.
another positive, asik was 8-14 shooting and he was able to catch the ball, sadly his ft went down and he only got 3 rebounds in the first half. His rebounds were the staple of our offense.
Vs Bucks, the trends continued, Ppat came strong off the bench, asik was solid offensively but he continues to struggle at rebounding and free throw shooting . But Mchale made a huge mistake at 2qt, he tried to emulate the last game success and went small ball, The problem was buck's starting center Larry Sanders was still on the floor , it took buck's 18 points lead before Mchale realized his mistake.
Our Small ball strategy then worked at 4qt because Sanders was in foul trouble. Dont let the stat fool you, john Henson got a lot of rebound at the garbage time. in This game we knew why Dmo was always benched, He was so thin that Bucks players easily blew him away.
Curiously the buck forum blamed the loss on monta Ellis, but if we examinate it closely. the credit was due to our defense
From Realgm forum (3rd quarter):
11:30 49-58 Monta Ellis bad pass (Chandler Parsons steals)
11:00 49-58 Monta Ellis bad pass (James Harden steals)
10:57 52-58 Monta Ellis shooting foul (James Harden draws the foul)
10:36 52-58 Monta Ellis misses 14-foot jumper
8:30 54-60 Monta Ellis misses jumper
7:52 57-60 Monta Ellis misses three point jumper
7:11 60-60 Monta Ellis bad pass (James Harden steals)
5:24 66-62 Monta Ellis misses layup
4:56 66-64 Monta Ellis misses 24-foot jumper
VS Cavalier, Asik imploded, fortunately Varejao was still injured. So instead of the battle between the two rebounding machines, we were treated to a battle between two back up centers. Greg Smith vs Tyler Zeller and Smith emerged victorious. Ppat went nuts again.
-our small ball strategy worked because the other team's big was already benched or in foul trouble
-Ppat should man the second unit
-other teams have devised ways to slow down our pace by attacking asik's rebounds and so far they were succesfull. Hopefully Asik's rebounding slump was only due to his fatigue
-regarding our two project bigs
1.Dmo must follow football players' diet
2. Greg smith still has a long way to go. prior to last night game, his only major impat was his thunderous dunks.Seems his big game against Celtics did more harm than good, because other teams now wont let him sneak in. The potentials are there, but Smith is still too raw. He is the kind of guy who could have benefited greatly from staying in the school a little bit longer. His upside is he already can have huge impact at games by playing alongside Asik. Practice that jumper young fella, you can have a bright future
