Omer Asik has (reportedly) asked for a trade

The Rockets former starting center wants his starting job back.

Well, that didn't take long. Finding himself the odd man out of the starting rotation, and seeing his minutes reduced, Omer Asik has reportedly, allegedly, formerly asked for a trade.

We knew from the beginning that acquiring Dwight Howard would cause problems with Asik since the two have such an overlapping skill set. The Twin Towers experiment hasn't showed any significant early returns and that's grounds for mutiny in the hasty, win now now NOW! sports culture. Asik is definitely a starting caliber player, no one denies that, but either McHale needs to get more creative with his rotations or he might have to face the reality that the floor simply isn't big enough for both Howard and Asik.

Call me naïve but surely there's enough room in the roster for two 7 foot brick walls that can block shots and rebound. How many teams out there would salivate at the notion of constant rim protection? The problem here is that Asik has no interest in being that second 7 footer. He wants to be the first. Teams simply don't work well when one player doesn't want to assume a lesser role.

But, however adamant Asik may be about finding a new team, It looks safer to say that if Asik is dealt, it'll happen closer to the deadline than in the coming days or weeks. Then again, Asik would be on a plane tonight if someone calls Daryl Morey with some sort of Godfather offer.
