First, if you have not read it, take a look at RollingWave's post about where we are asset and contract wise. It's a very good read about a complex subject. In short, we have a very good selection of draft picks and euro-stashed players for a team that is in win-now mode. One might think that is not such a good thing at first but even a brief look at the folks in NYC will confirm the wisdom of not keeping all one's eggs in a single basket.
Second, take all you are hearing about possible trades with a few grains of salt. No one has ever called a Morey trade that I can remember and I really do not expect that to change now. Like all of you, I have seen the Asik for T Young stuff but not much of it makes sense. First I do not see Mr. Young as much of an upgrade over TJ. When you factor the money in it really does not look all that good. I also SMH when I see that a 3rd team must be involved, me and the trade machine do not get that at all. Long story short, I do not see that deal happening.
One thing that is making this interesting is that Omer has missed more games recently than in the rest of his career. Problem for him, (and his agent), is that the team is not suffering from his absence. That might change, but if Smith comes back and plays well it could undermine what little leverage team Asik has in this. If next Friday comes and goes without a deal, Morey can say , "hey I tried but you guys are not helping much".
A poll follows with the usual choices. If you think Asik gets traded, throw up your best guess as to where. I would ask that you keep it to actual possibilities that will get through the CBA but that never works anyway.
