The Rockets' guard group is running thin since Patrick Beverley has been ruled out with a hand fracture suffered in the game against the Pistons along with Jeremy Lin (back spasms) and James Harden (ankle sprain) listed as day-to-day. To help fill the void at point guard, the Rockets have called up the Rio Grade Valley Viper point guard Isaiah Canaan who they selected 34th overall in the last draft.
Canaan has been tearing it up with the Vipers, averaging 21.7 points, 9.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds a game. He is shooting 44% on the season, including 38% from deep. Additionally, Canaan was named Developmental Player of The Week for December 2nd-8th when he averaged 25.5 points, 9.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.
Canaan may make his NBA debut on December 23rd against the Dallas Mavericks, with Beverley out for 4-6 weeks and Lin questionable for Monday. Canaan should bring 3 point shooting and good pick and roll play off the bench for the Rockets.
