Okay, all the facts have come in and i'm now ready to crunch out the conclusions.
The huge teams, lakers and celtics, are up the creek. Their gonna want to blow up. But the Garnett/Clippers deal is nixed--Chris Paul's calling the shots and he's not going to send Bledsoe to the celtics. Also, Billups said 'no.'
Lakers aren't going to trade Howard because there's no guarantee that he'll stay with the team he's traded to. Howard doesn't know what he wants therefore the Lakers cant do jack.
Morey is now shopping terrence jones around. That means, he's come to the same conclusion i have. No big teams with big trades means no room for a third leg team to facilitate the trade. No profit for Morey.
Who's gonna bite? Who needs a promising power forward? Who has a first round draft pick.
Only the suns fit this requirement.
(okay, here's where i went to bed cuz i couldn't keep my eyes open. It's gonna look like i wrote this after the fact but i swear to god i had this as my primary conclusion. You're just gonna have to trust me that i thought the Suns would go for a trade. They are pretty desperate to trade and they've been rebuffed by a lot of teams. But I was wrong about the Suns being willing to trade their 1st rounders, though.)
--------------now that's the situation's changed, the analysis has to change. I originally thought that aside from the Suns, the Magic and the Cavs would be the two teams Morey would be focusing on. They don't really have that great of a PF situation and they've got the first round draft picks Morey covets. They've got the highest percentage chance of a deal coming through. (You can say that Cavs got Speights but Varejao is injured and Speights would be covering those minutes. For a playoff run, Cavs could pull the trigger for Greg Smith, or even Teej. Add the 2nd rounder to sweeten the pot. The only thing holding up the deal would be that the Cavs really want Parsons. It's all there in the ESPN depth charts.
One of the Cavs 1st rounders is contingent on the Lakers not having a good Lottery pick. If the lakers get a 1-14 lottery pick then that pick reverts to the Lakers. The Cavs might need to offload this pick in a hurry anyways.
So if we can package Trob or Teej for that 1st rounder...if the lakers can proceed to get to the playoffs because they've got 4 hall of famers...then there's a lot of things you can do with that. A LOT.
