No one really expected Lin to be what he was in those 25 games he started in NY with 18.2 pts / 7.7 ast / 3.7 rebs / 4.7 TO / 34% 3pt / 2 stl. If that was the case he would have received a max contract like DWill who posted very similar numbers this season but his contract will pay him an average of almost $20M/yr, Lin will make $8.5M/yr. And just as one last example CP3 posted 16.9 pts / 9.7 ast / 3.7 reb / 2.3 TO / 32.8 3pt / 2.4 stl, making almost $18M.
Lin started the season hurt and you could tell his game was off. Once he started looking healthy again after the all-star break, he posted numbers of 14.9 pts / 5.9 ast / 2.2 reb / 2.8 TO / 37.5% 3pt / 1.1 stl. Those numbers are very similar to Mike Conley who makes the same money on average. The only difference, this was Lin's first full season and Mike Conley's 5th full season.
I'm not a Lin fanatic but I don't think he deserves the bashing people give him. $8.5 is a fair price for him and I think he has lived up to this contract so far. I think next year he will be even better once he get more comfortable with his role. I thin having Lin and Beverly is such a good thing for the Rockets, the coach can pick what he needs from his PG depending on how the game is going. Kudos to Morey for finding PB and getting him on the cheap.
