As a long-time Blazer fan, I naturally came to "the other side" for predictions and discussions from the opposing team in regards to the upcoming 1st round playoff matchup. I would like to think I am a rational and non-delusional fan and while I fully concede that the Blazers are not favorites to win, I have been very surprised and the absolute confidence made by Rockets fans as well as various media outlets. The general impression that I am getting that Houston will literally steamroll and Portland is overmatched and has no chance to be a serious threat. What exactly is the reason for this? Last I checked, the teams have identical records and even during the regular season matchups -- 1 game was decidedly won by Portland, 2 by Houston, and then 1 that could have gone either way. Is Portland really viewed as the same threat as say... Atlanta?
By all means, with a gun to my head I would probably choose the Rockets, but would it be the upset of all upsets if Portland won 4-1? Rockets in 7? Portland in 7? Rockets in 4? Portland in 6? These are evenly matched teams with explosive offenses and as all teams - both have their own share of critical flaws. I'm extremely excited for this matchup and to see how the games play out, but until the series is over I don't think a fan of either team can confidently claim dominance.
Anyway, I am curious to hear thoughts on this topic, and may the best team win!
