As you have probably noticed around here, things have been a bit slow lately at The Dream Shake. And in the spirit of getting things going again, we are looking for new writers to come join the staff! If you are a diehard Rockets fan who also likes to write, The Dream Shake could be the place for you.
What are we looking for?
Do you ever read the newspaper or website and think that you could do better than that? Do you bother your friends because you talk about the Rockets too much? We're looking for a combination of passion for the team and writing ability. If that describes you, give us a chance.
We have news articles, analysis pieces, as well as stupid puff pieces like this article about Brent Barry's mixtape. And we want more of it. The positions will be unpaid at the beginning, but there are paid opportunities available down the road if you are interested.
Sounds great, where do I sign up?
In order to be considered for a spot at The Dream Shake, send me an email at email@example.com with the following information:
- A little bit about yourself and your Rockets fan story, as well as any prior experience you have with sports blogging
- A writing sample between 500 and 1200 words. Think of it as what your first article would be if you were added to the staff. For this, we're looking for something other than just a news article, because we'll be posting a number of these to the site. Examples would be "Why Carmelo Anthony would never fit the Rockets" or "Why Patrick Beverley's knee should be a lingering concern for the Rockets". Just show that you can explore an interesting topic in an article and go for it.
As I said above, we will take some of these writing samples and post them on the site. So if you want to see your name printed on the front page of TDS and get all the perks that come with it (endless hot oil massages from BD), put your name in the hat and give it a shot!
