With the Rockets' pursuit of Chris Bosh reportedly continuing, their one major free agent, Chandler Parsons has agreed to a 3 year, $45 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks. When free agency opens tomorrow, Parsons will reportedly sign the deal, giving the Rockets three days to match it. With their other free agency business ongoing, there may now be a race against time to get all the deals done.
Three years and $45 million is a lot, and the Mavericks are willing to risk the Rockets letting Parsons go as they try to wring whatever basketball Dirk has left. As a basketball fan, it would be very interesting to see how Parsons reacts to a larger role with the Mavericks, but as a Rockets fan, all I can think is "Dallas? Really?" You couldn't take a nice deal with the Cavs or Suns? Dallas? Parsons has to look out for himself and that's all this is, but it's frustrating to see.
My guess is as good as yours as to what will happen, but I would expect the Rockets to match this deal, especially if they can get Bosh to agree to a contract in the meantime. If Bosh stays in Miami, there's a definite chance the Rockets pass this offer up and let him go. These next few days just got a whole lot more interesting.
