Rockets vs Lakers: The Aftermath

As some of you might know, when you're a rockets fan, sometimes what you want or what needs to happen, doesn't always happen. As for last night, what happened was near perfect. The Rockets defeated a 15th place L.A. Lakers, 112-95. As the game started out it looked like another all offense, little to none defense ball game. It was like that the entire first half. Houston turned it on in the second half to get the win easily. The reason this ended up being a perfect game was because we played so well to a point where we could rest our starters for majority of the second half to get ready for a tough match up against The Clippers tonight.

Let's look at some (kind of) interesting facts from last night!

1. James Harden could of had a 50 point night if the game was closer. Harden registered 30 points with 7 minutes to go IN THE THIRD QUARTER. For the first time in I'm not sure how long, Harden was on fire from the 3 point line putting up 4 in a row. He finished shooting 10 for 17 from the field, 4 for 7 from the three point line, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists in just 27 minutes.

2. As noted in my last "Aftermath" blog Ty Lawson only played 6 minutes last game against the Cavs. Rockets broadcasters announced that an illness was the reason for that. That was good to know because he looked pretty healthy during the game. Even though Jason Terry got the start, Lawson got the most minutes out of the two with 31. Ty registered 12 points (4 for 7 shooting) and 5 assists. It's looking like the more he plays, the more comfortable he is becoming with his game in Houston.

3. The bigs were HUGE last night. Howard and Capela both racked up double doubles (Howard- 14 & 15, Capela- 14 & 11). Jones struggled heavily but an unlikely hero stepped up. The minutes hungry rookie Montrezl Harrell put up 10 points, 8 rebounds, in 24 minutes. Related to the bigs doing well, Houston set a season high in points in the paint with 70

4. After many games of which Houston had big leads, only to let the team come back at the end. The Rockets actually started out bad on the defensive end, but then finished really strong. Houston allowed 57 points by half time. When the 4th quarter was over the guys in red only gave up 38 points in the second half. Granted it is against the worst team in the west but nonetheless pleasant to see the Rockets turn on that domination switch.

5. This one isn't really a fact that happened last night, but I found it out last night. Rockets guard Marcus Thornton is the only player in the NBA who averages over 10 points a game with playing under 20 minutes a game. I thought that was really interesting considering the fact that I mistakenly paid no mind to his signing over the offseason as I thought he was just a training camp/preseason body. It goes to show that the man can score!
