The Rockets have one sure-fire All Star this year.
You might be able to recognize him -- he's the 7'6" Chinese guy ("Chinaman" not being the preferred nomenclature). Yeah, Yao will be an All-Star for the 7th time... no doubt about that.
I think we can safely say that T-Mac will not be joining Yao in Phoenix for the all-star game. And as much as I love the impact Crazy Pills has had on our roster and the team overall, I do not think Ron Artest will be included in the Western Conference All Star lineup either. Please don't kill the messenger, Ron Ron.
But there's still that little thing known as the "Rookie/Sophomore" game.
And I think we need to start the push for not one, not two, but THREE of your Houston Rockets to make it onto the Sophomore squad. Luis Scola, Carl Landry and Aaron Brooks should all make the team. Yes, 30% of the roster should be wearing Rocket Red that night...
(I'd make an argument that Joey Dorsey belongs on the rookie team, but even my over-the-top homerism can't make a colorable argument in his favor. Sorry, Joey. Maybe you can write this down in your next batch of thoughts?)
Luis Scola:
Carl Landry:
Aaron Brooks:
Each of these players could be studs for other teams. Scola already starts for a playoff-level team. Landry would start for at least 1/2 the teams in the league RIGHT NOW. Teams are kicking themselves for not taking Brooks when they had the chance, because change-of-pace guards who can finish in traffic are not exactly easy to find. And ABZ has some crazy-range for a midget.
Scola made this game last year, but got lost in a sea of dunks and ballhogging. Maybe if we can get him some help in the form of teammates we can let the world see how much of a badass Luis Scola is. Correction: How much of a badass Luis Landry is! Brooks ain't so bad either...
(now that's a gorilla dunk!)
(You see? Yao needs a buddy in Phoenix! Or 3!)
Too bad we can't vote on this, but if anyone has ideas on how I can "help" get Luis Landry + ABZ to Phoenix for the sophomore team... I'm all ears!
