Rockets-Jazz Oral History Through Comments: Part 2

AK concludes his oral comments history of the Rockets-Jazz game from Monday night.

I love the smell of Jazz fans' disappointment in the morning.

Since the first half was so popular, here is the second half. Once again, this is NSFW as the F bomb was dropped multiple times, especially as the game wore on. This half was much more fun since the score was settling in.

Halftime

Halftime brought on a ton of subjects, including (false) hope for the Jazz and (of course) Jeremy Lin's perfect shooting night.

SLC Dunk:

I'm still calling this a win

Corbin saw that Lin was slacking off our PG’s because they can’t shoot and made an actual in-game adjustment putting Burks in. Sure it only took him an entire half and will probably take him most the next half but it’s still progress.

TDS was a little more relaxed.

Guys don't look now...

But Lin hasn’t missed a shot yet.

Nearly perfect first half

You know the Jazz will probably make a run at some point though so the Rockets can’t lose focus

20 fast break points...32 points in the paint

just in the first half. Holy moly

by twinkilling0303 on Jan 28, 2013 9:06 PM CST reply actions

Only 5 free throws. 4-14 from 3s.

And we’re killing.

by VBG on Jan 28, 2013 9:06 PM CST reply actions

They’re really hurting a lot without Hayward. The Rocket defense is hell bent on stopping Millsap and Jefferson which they’re doing with Asik and double teams. The Jazz wings just aren’t good enough to compensate for that.

The Third Quarter

We'll start in SLC, where it suddenly became incredibly fun to read.

F it.

by Jordan Cummings on Jan 28, 2013 9:30 PM CST reply actions

As you would expect, The Dream Shake was enjoying themselves. Also, they were dropping Celtics references and breaking down the Rockets defense.

Lin's doubling and helping on every Jazz iso

Is completely changing the game. Fantastic coaching.

I'm gonna commit a sin here...

Maybe one day the Rockets can be like the mid 80s Celtics.

Everyone will shoot left handed for a whole game, and win anyway. Or something.

And no beatdown of Utah can ever truly be boring.

This game finally made stop lurking, look up my old account (see username), and post.

I’ve been sitting on the fence for a while now, but I’ve been climbing slowly onto the fire-Corbin side. Not only does he seem to be a mediocre head coach, he’s screwing over our future by committing to the vets. You can bet Favors will sign an offer sheet as soon as he becomes a RFA, and will bolt out of here (assuming he’s not traded) when he becomes a free agent.

I was very optimistic about the Lindsey hire, but it’s looking more and more like the Jazz brass will be content to eternally compete for the 8 seed; trading for older players and signing any point guard willing to put on a uni.

The Jazz have been competitive in the past almost ENTIRELY because of the draft. Trades & free agent signings have only served to keep the Jazz afloat and save cash, not push the Jazz to the next level.

The Jazz need to play the young guns, play the lotto (playoffs would be fine), and fire Corbin.

The Rockets used to be our b****. Now we’re getting absolutely OBLITERATED. The Rockets have killed the Jazz, burned their corpses, and are now currently defecating on the ashes.

Post-Game

SLC Dunk was not pleased. Corbin takes the brunt of the hate, and they're especially upset with his refusal to play the young guys (sound familiar?).

heads need to roll

by rbmw263 on Jan 28, 2013 10:19 PM CST reply actions

Isn't it interesting to see a team BUILD on a huge lead, instead of getting complacent?

Dear Jazz,

THAT is how you stomp on the throat of a weaker opponent. THAT is how you keep them out of the game for good. You don’t let up. You keep going for the jugular.

by Jordan Cummings on Jan 28, 2013 10:24 PM CST reply actions

Ty Corbin on the game:

"Its one loss. We didn’t execute, we didn’t get stops, we didn’t have energy, we didn’t do much on the offensive end, we didn’t do much on the defensive end. Where do you want to start?
We didn’t do much of anything on both ends. We didn’t have it all game long. We’ve had tests before, its one loss. Whether by one point or 45."

by tyandtwenty on Jan 28, 2013 10:29 PM CST reply actions

Corbin doesn't see anything except veterans.

The young guys have clearly not been getting enough minutes or quality special coaching. They seem to be regressing andJefferson is a poor example to be learning from besides. Nobody even boxes out anymore let alone play defense. It looks like a total coaching disaster.

He set a franchise record last night. Coaching the single worst home loss in Jazz history in the arena that has the biggest home court advantage in the NBA.

I can't believe it was to the freaking Rockets

They always seem to do just fine at ESA. It’s embarrassing to have one of the best home atmospheres in the NBA and how it historically doesn’t faze our archrivals.

The thing that worries me is that

Houston just ran the blueprint for destroying the Jazz to a T.

Further, I don’t feel like Corbin is capable of adjusting his tactics, so I believe the same game plan would work time and again for any team with the personnel to run it

To reiterate what Patrick said, please don't go and troll at SLC Dunk. They're super depressed right now and you might set them off. That's not really fair at this point.

Also make sure to read Patrick's recap and the comments for it for even more awesome. Thanks guys.
