The trade winds have been swirling for a while, but today they seem to have more finality as the Rockets may have a deal in place to trade Omer Asik, Sam Amick reports. The Rockets have been trying to get a deal done by next Thursday, which would allow them to package whatever comes back in a trade, and this report seems to indicate they will just shop their current deal around to see if they can get a better one.
Here's what Amick had to say:
There's still a long way to go until the Feb. 20 trade deadline, but the next deal could be days away. A person with knowledge of the Houston Rockets' thinking confirmed reports that they plan on trading center Omer Asik by Thursday. There is significance in the timing, as Thursday is the last day on which teams can acquire players who could be traded in later deals before the deadline.
Final Asik note: Rival execs believe Rockets have deal in place - Philly their educated guess - & looking for better one b4 pulling trigger

Amick also noted that previously reported New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks deals for Ryan Anderson and Ersan Ilyasova have no legs. Instead, the 76ers, Hawks, and Cavaliers are the likely suitors for Asik's services.
Of course, Daryl Morey could always pull a rabbit out of a hat and trade Asik to a team nobody expects, but it looks more and more like there will be a deal done in the next six days. What comes back is anybody's guess.
