NBA Offseason: Rockets ranked seventh in SB Nation Power Rankings

The SBNation site managers got together for a group power rankings, and the Rockets finished seventh. Is that fair ranking?

USA TODAY Sports

It's the end of July, and you know what that means. There's little going on in free agency, teams are unlikely to make big trades, and all we have is the vague threat of schedule releases in the next week. To fill our time, we argue over whose team is better.

With that in mind, the SBNation site managers combined for a group power rankings piece to compare all 30 teams in the league. You can find the article here. In an average of the 30 votes, the Rockets ended up in 7th place, behind the Heat, Thunder, Spurs, Pacers, Clippers and Bulls.

These rankings would put the Rockets in fourth in the Western Conference, comfortably above the Grizzlies and Warriors, but they reflect the fact that most don't view them as serious championship contenders yet.

For the record, here was my ballot:

  1. Heat
  2. Spurs
  3. Clippers
  4. Pacers
  5. Rockets
  6. Thunder
  7. Nets
  8. Warriors
  9. Bulls
  10. Grizzlies
  11. Knicks
  12. Nuggets
  13. Timberwolves
  14. Hawks
  15. Cavaliers
  16. Trail Blazers
  17. Wizards
  18. Pelicans
  19. Pistons
  20. Mavericks
  21. Lakers
  22. Raptors
  23. Jazz
  24. Kings
  25. Bobcats
  26. Bucks
  27. Celtics
  28. Magic
  29. Suns
  30. Sixers
So what do you think? What did we get right and what did we get wrong? Are the Rockets really better than the Thunder now like I voted or was I just drunk on Dwight Howard? Let us know in the comments!
