Laudatory Villanelle Commemorating Rockets 112 - 86 Victory Over The Pacers

Recapitulations in poesy never fail to please On magnificent evenings such as these.

Initially I thought "sestina" but that's a fairly complex form, and my mind is a jangle with the excitement of this win. A simpler form, popular in a mid 20th century revival, the villanelle, must suffice tonight. A least its not a sonnet to a loss.

Away to sprawled Houston on a soft vernal night

Facing strong pacing Indiana to settle a score

Scorching all foes, the Rockets burn bright

Strong defenders from the corn lands ready to fight

Are pushed this way and that across the wood floor

Houston's ambition rose higher tonight

Cruel doubts much declaimed of Houston in spite

This contest shows hollow and vain at their core

Scorching all foes, the Rockets burn bright

Black bearded Harden, scornful of slights

With drives and fierce defense showed Indy the door

Houston's ambition rose higher tonight

Merry Howard's wide smile shone in delight

As All Stars sought solace on the bench's wood shore

Scorching all foes, the Rockets burn bright

The team strode forward to imperious heights

Took what they pleased, and could have had more

Scorching all foes, the Rockets burn bright

As Houston's ambition rose highest tonight

What can I say? A glorious victory, almost nothing to complain about, why complain any?
