Rockets vs. Pelicans game thread: Big men sitting out

New, comments

What, you expected to see everyone play? It's the preseason.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It's getting close now. The New Orleans Pelicans come to the Toyota Center for the Houston Rockets' second-to-last preseason game, and though many big names are missing due to injury, we're beginning to approach real, meaningful basketball.

For the Pelicans, Anthony Davis is being held out to rest. (That clicking sound you heard was Rockets fans desperately trying to offload their tickets on the secondary market.) That fact alone means that these Pelicans won't remotely resemble the regular season version. Tyreke Evans also will be missing from the lineup.

For the Rockets, Dwight Howard remains out, as do Donatas Motiejunas, Patrick Beverley and Terrence Jones, who has a concussion. But Clint Capela is back, and the paucity of frontcourt options available to Kevin McHale means he should get some real run. Corey Brewer looks likely to return to the lineup as well.

This promises to be a cagey affair, as it's doubtful that either team will give a division rival much of a look at what they'll be running this season. But still, it's basketball. What the heck else are you gonna do on a Monday night? Hang out with us in the comments.
