Tonight is the last night for preseason for the Rockets. After tonight, Daryl Morey and his crew of calculator crunchers will determine which unguaranteed signee (if any) the Rockets will make the fifteenth player on their roster.
At this point, signs point to Joshua Smith landing that spot due to his preseason play and the fact that Houston cannot have enough big men on the roster. With Dwight likely to miss chunks of time, D-Mo's possible time missed due to his back, and Clint Capela's youthful inexperience, the Rockets will almost certainly be shuffling through bodies at the 4 and 5 spots. Smith doesn't help in the experience department, but he checks off other boxes.
Still, the game must go on and the Rockets have to take I-10 and play the rival Spurs. By all accounts, the Spurs landed the big fish in the offseason when they grabbed LaMarcus Olajuwon Aldridge from the reeling Blazers.
Let's get serious though. The most important offseason decision the Spurs will make will actually be made by the public relations department at HEB when they decide what the themes of this year's commercials will be. Indubitably.
Tip-off is at 7:30pm CST. The game can be found on Root Sports Southwest and on NBA TV.
