Ethan Rothstein, our editor in chief and chief who is also an editor, asked me to start a weekly column, in which I bring you the Weird Rockets Video of the Week.
At first I was like, "Are there really that many videos that I could use," and the answer to that question was yes, yes, an overwhelmingly intense and absolute yes. I don't think we knew what we were getting ourselves into.
Here is this week's video:

"i dont know why im puting this video on youtube. its stupid dwill gets blocked by carl landry and we lose game three of the playoffs... its cool if you want to see what a away playoff game looks like. say thanks if your a rockets fan! put a video on for something cool and utah jazz-ish thanks."
Oh, man. This video is perfect. This video is so, so perfect. It's only 32 seconds long, but I mean, every single one of those seconds is just another perfect second.
For some context, this is a fan's video taken during the end of Game 3 of the first round of the 2008 playoffs. Carl Landry comes through with a huge block on Deron "Remember When I Was As Good As Chris Paul" Williams to seal a Houston win 94-92. The Rockets won this game, but they ended up losing this series in 6. It's sad. But this video makes me happy. Here are some reasons why:
- To find this video, I looked up "houston rockets stupid" on YouTube, and of course this video showed up because the uploader put "stupid" in the title. He called his own video stupid before I even watched it. Unreal. YouTube is amazing. This video is amazing.
- The description of this video is pure gold. This video's description is like it was written on a stone tablet. I'm working on creating a religion based on the principles set up by this video's description. I love that there are no capital letters. I love how he reiterates that he thinks the video is stupid by mentioning it in both the title, and the description.
- The sentence "say thanks if your a rockets fan!" is just amazing front to back. This dude wants me to say thanks for posting an extremely pixelated video that he didn't even want to post in the first place. And above all of this, he asks me to do so with extraordinarily poor grammar.
Man, this whole video is just great from top to bottom. Here is the best comment. I had 14 to choose from.
Bobbygledford, if that is your real name, I love your comment. I love that 7 years ago you were like, "Man, Landry had two blocks in a first round playoff game. That dude is gonna be legit. That's my guy, right there." That's a bold call, Bobbygledford. You're a bold guy, BGF (Bobbygledford).
Here's a semi-related story for you, Bobbygledford, about Carl Landry, your dude. Once, in like 2013, I was at a game with my friend, and Carl Landry did something (not something as magnificent as blocking Deron Williams in 2008, but still), and my friend made his voice higher pitched and said, "Carl do my Landry," and the whole section laughed. No lie. Two rows in front and behind us gave that joke an actual laugh. So, Bobbygledford, if you meant "Carl Landry will contribute to a reasonably solid joke in 5 years," when you said, "he is gonna be good" 7 years ago, I guess you were right.
That was your Weird Rockets Video of the Week. Come back next Wednesday when I'll show you some other ridiculous thing because this is who I am now.
