Tomorrow is Christmas Day, and for a lot of Rockets players, Christmas is not really about what someone will get them. It's about what they can get for others and making others happy on such a joyful day.
Many of the Rockets players, like Dwight Howard, and James Harden, spend the holiday season giving back to the community. Just recently, Harden took a bunch of kids to Target for their own little Christmas shopping spree.
While the players do give back and do a bunch of stuff for others, The Dream Shake asked some of the Rockets players to go back and remember some of their favorite gifts and what are the special memories they have during this holiday.
"Super Nintendo," Corey Brewer said of his favorite gift growing up, "when I got my Super Nintendo, it was the greatest gift in the world."
Brewer also listed off some of his favorite games: Super Mario Bros, NBA Live, and Madden. Of that group Mario Bros was his personal favorite.
Nowadays for Brewer, Christmas is pretty much all for his kids, but his mom still takes care of her NBA star.
"She'll probably get me some underwear," Brewer said, laughing.
While Brewer enjoyed the toys, teammate K.J. McDaniels went in a different direction.
"Has to be one of my dogs," McDaniels said of his favorite gift. "A few years ago, I got my female dog on Christmas. Her name is Layla, still have her now."
Layla, a pit bull, was a rescue and has seemed to capture the heart of McDaniels, calling her his best Christmas gift.
As a 10 year old in Alabama, McDaniels said he received a "chopper" style bike and he remember spending the whole rest of day riding it around.
Patrick Beverley's best Christmas memory came very recently: last year he got engaged. The Rockets usually play on Christmas Day, but last year the Rockets had the day off. While Beverley didn't share details on how the engagement went down (we didn't ask), we can only image that it was something pretty epic.
Beverley did share that his favorite gift as a kid was... wait for it... a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure set. Cowabunga, dude!
I think most of us can relate to the Rockets; many of us have gotten a game system, an animal or some really cool action figures. And while they are playing a game that we all love, it's nice to know and be reminded, the players are a lot like us. Hopefully tomorrow we'll all get a great Christmas gift: a win over the San Antonio Spurs.
