USA Today's Sam Amick just dropped a bomb: Donatas Motiejunas is out for the season with his back injury.

It's a cruel reversal of roles after Motiejunas established himself as a starter while Dwight Howard and Terrence Jones missed time due to injury.

The news comes as a surprise after the Rockets quietly pulled Motiejunas out of the lineup on March 27th with reports of a sore back and a 1 - 2 week timeline for his return.

Motiejunas is averaging career highs in EVERYTHING and has spent the season logging crucial minutes at both the power forward and center positions. Expect Terrence Jones to continue consuming the bulk of Motiejunas' minutes with Josh Smith now playing an even more important role in upcoming playoff games. This injury also makes Joey Dorsey playoff minutes and free throws inescapable.

Motiejunas last played on March 25th against the New Orleans Pelicans where he logged 37 minutes.
