Apologies for a lack of a Kings preview. I was in the process of moving from Amarillo to Houston and totally blanked on the game when I cut off my internet access on Wednesday. Judging by all the lack of tweets or texts I received, no one noticed my gaffe. Or no one reads these anyway. I like the first option more. For my own sake.
Anyway, the Rockets head to Portland for game two of their second five-game road trip of the season. Houston went 3-2 on the previous trip with a surprise victory in San Antonio against a rested Spurs squad. We had talked about how 2-3 seemed a likely ending to that road trip and a would be a decent goal for the team.
On this trip, I probably see 2-3 again as well. Houston won the first contest over the Kings, but now have roadies against the Blazers and Jazz. Houston has wins over both of these teams during their recent homestand, but of course both teams have great home crowds and will give the Rockets a difficult time.
The Blazers are 29th in the league in points allowed per game at 112.8. That’s becoming more and more of a poor metric, but with Houston’s pace and desire to get into the lane and hit 3s, the Rockets have little excuse but to put up a big number. The Blazers can score too (109.4 per game), so tonight should be a good one.
Tip-off is at 8pm CT. Hooray! A reasonable West Coast tip time!
