Tonight the two biggest games of the Rockets' season occur.
First, Houston is on a back-to-back against the surging Minnesota Timberwolves. Minny has won three straight games, all on the road. Oh, and one of those wins was against the Warriors. Plus, they beat the Blazers in Portland, which is also a tough ask.
It's all starting to come together for the Timberwolves. Andrew Wiggins is emerging as a go-to star that can carry an offense. Karl-Anthony Towns has run away with the Rookie of the Year award and should be the unanimous decision. Ricky Rubio is running the show admirably and Nemanja Bjelica and Shabazz Muhammad are holding it down off the bench.
Meanwhile, the other important game tonight is Dallas at Utah. As much as it pains Rockets fans, they should probably be rooting for Dallas tonight. A Utah loss plus Houston winning its last two games would clinch the playoffs for Houston. If Utah wins tonight, then Houston would need either Utah or Dallas to lose its last game. While it might appear that having two chances would be nice, it's unlikely that either the Jazz or Mavs will lose their finale since Utah plays the Lakers and Dallas is playing a Spurs team that is going to rest everyone.
Oh, and a Houston loss plus a Utah win would eliminate Houston from playoff contention.
So tonight is the night, so to speak.
Tip-off is at 7pm Central.
