Rockets release Chris Paul recruitment video

This video was made for a free agent meeting with Chris Paul that never happened.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe got his hands on the yet-to-be-seen recruitment video the Rockets intended to woo Chris Paul with.

It’s an ironic watch as the Point God never needed to see the video. The perennial All-Star forced a trade out of L.A. instead of entering free agency. Thus the video was never used.

Even though the Rockets didn’t need the video Chris Paul asked to see it after joining the Rockets. Not surprising for a guy who kept the bobblehead Daryl Morey gave him during a free agent recruitment meeting in 2013.

The video is more vanity than analytics. The high point is the edit of Paul throwing a lob to Capela. Or perhaps James Harden thrashing around. Nevermind... it’s sad Steph Curry dealing with defeat at the hand of the Rockets at the start of the video (even though the Rockets can’t win a title by beating Steph Curry).

The Rockets are notorious for their all-out pitch meetings with free agents. They gained notoriety for giving out iPads with video montages when the tablet was more status symbol than utility.

Enjoy the video now. The real entertainment will be 30 years from now when Chris Paul, Daryl Morey, James Harden or Doc Rivers tell us the unvarnished story of how Paul found his way to Houston.

If this team goes as far as fans believe they can, then it’s a story we deserve.
