With the NBA season complete and the offseason afoot, rumors are beginning to fly across the NBA. And one rumor now has Clippers point guard Chris Paul going from the Clippers to the Rockets.
According to Broderick Turner of the LA Times, Paul will meet with the Rockets in free agency, as he is likely to opt out of his contract with the Clippers to become an unrestricted free agent. Paul is expected to also be recruited by the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets.
Could signing Chris Paul be the “something” up Daryl Morey’s sleeve? Pairing Chris Paul with James Harden would easily challenge and probably overtake Golden State as the best backcourt in basketball.
The fit does seem a bit odd, especially considering Paul is more of a true point guard than Harden, and it would take the ball out of the hands of the league leader in assists this past season.
However, Chris Paul makes this team better and while the scenario does seem slightly far-fetched, there are some rumors that seem like they will never happen, but end up going the opposite direction. For instance, this time a year ago, very few expected Kevin Durant and the Warriors teaming up. Now, he has a ring and a Finals MVP with them. This rumor should not be run to the bank, but it also is not something that should be disregarded.
