For those with a betting edge, this information might be important for you.
Earlier this week, Las Vegas betting odds placed a number of wins that all thirty teams had to meet in order to bet on them. Last year, the Rockets shattered their projected win total of 40.5, winning 55 games and making a lot of betters very happy.
This year, with the Rockets improvement from last season and the additions of Chris Paul and P.J. Tucker, the Rockets have the third highest win total in the NBA at 55.5. This means that if you bet over 55.5, and they win 56 or higher, you win the bet. If they win 55 or fewer, and you bet under, you also win. Bet one way and the Rockets go the other, you lose the bet.
The Rockets trail only the Warriors (67.5) and the Celtics (56.5) in this category. This is also technically a way to see which teams Vegas thinks will go to the playoffs. Here is Vegas’s projected playoff picture in the West:
- Golden State Warriors (67.5)
- Houston Rockets (55.5)
- San Antonio Spurs (54.5)
- Oklahoma City Thunder (51.5)
- Minnesota Timberwolves (48.5)
- Denver Nuggets (45.5)
- Los Angeles Clippers (43.5)
- Portland Trail Blazers (42.5)
Using this as a meter for potential playoff standings would put Houston in a matchup with our buddies, the LA Clippers. Certainly this would be a matchup with many fireworks and built-up anticipation.
