After yesterday’s release of forward Shawn Long, the Rockets had some additional space for a camp body, and they filled that spot with the signing of guard George de Paula.

The 6’6” swing guard played in the Brazilian League for Club Athletico Paulistano and came out for the NBA draft this past season. He went undrafted, but was able to join the Rockets during NBA Summer League play. He played in just two games during the Summer League, scoring but a single bucket, but did average 2 assists in only 16 minutes of action.

De Paula is primarily a defensive specialist, however, as his size, wingspan (7’0”), and athleticism make him tough to deal with on the perimeter as a defender.

In the Brazilian League, he averaged 10.8 points, 4.1 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, and thought he’s likely just an extra body, the Rockets obviously think enough of him as a defender to take a second look at him in camp.
