Houston native and former Slam Dunk champion Gerald Green will be with the Rockets for the remainder of the year according to the latest report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Following a loss to the Golden State Warriors the Rockets leaked their intent to release victory cigar guard Bobby Brown, who is on a non-guaranteed contract. The backup shooter is a close friend of James Harden and Trevor Ariza and may rejoin the team in the future.

The 31-year-old Green earned a roster spot in just five games after creating instant offense as the 6th man off the Rockets bench. He will pull down $872,000 for the remainder of the season.

Houston sought out Green after an overwhelming workload was clearly wearing on James Harden and Trevor Ariza during a stretch without Chris Paul and Luc Mbah a Moute.

Green was brought in to provide a small breather, but has been thrust into a starring role following James Harden’s hamstring injury. Since The Beard’s injury Green has tallied 27 and 29 points in 28 and 34 minutes respectively.

In addition to dropping buckets during Harden’s absence, Green is providing necessary scoring during the continued disappearance of Ryan Anderson. The power forward has scored double digits just once since Green joined the team.

Green went straight to the NBA in 2005 from Houston’s Gulf Shores Academy, a since closed charter school at the southwest bend of I-610.
