Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks game preview

NBA: Houston Rockets at Dallas Mavericks Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

It feels odd to say, but Houston Rockets fans should probably be rooting for the Dallas Mavericks to win some games.

Not tonight, obviously. But in general, maybe.

As of right now, the Dallas Mavericks have the fourth-worst record in the NBA after beating the Los Angeles Lakers last night at home. With the front half of the lottery loaded with talent, the Rockets should hope they won’t have to face Luka Doncic or Marvin Bagley four times per season.

The Rockets still haven’t figured out their roster as I write this. Brandan Wright and Joe Johnson are headed to Houston after being bought out by the Grizzlies and Kings, respectively. However, the Rockets only have one roster spot available since they have not cut a player yet. The guess is that the Rockets cut Tarik Black today and both players become official signings. Whether or not the new additions will play for Houston tonight remains to be seen. Maybe the Rockets will wait until after the All-Star break. Or maybe they’ll be available tonight.

In other injury news, Trevor Ariza remains day-to-day but Houston needs to hold him out as long as possible to get 100%.

Tip-off is at 6pm CT on NBA TV
