With the Warriors’ loss tonight at home against the Bucks, the Rockets have clinched homecourt advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
The Western Conference will go through the Toyota Center this season as the Rockets have won 61 of their first 75 games. This means, the Rockets can go 0-7 for the final seven games and still get the top seed. From here on out, the Rockets’ wins will be deemed meaningless. This likely equates to more rest for the team and more play from the youngsters and the bench contributors.
The Warriors’ 116-107 loss put them seven games behind the Rockets in the standings. And, with the Rockets clinching the 2-1 season series and the tiebreaker, the Rockets have officially distanced themselves far enough from the Warriors.
The Rockets have been the second seed before, most recently in 2015, where the Rockets made it to the Western Conference Finals. Let’s hope that the team can get back there and beyond for the 2018 playoffs.
