After an off-season and pre-season that lasted approximately as long as the Byzantine Empire, the Rockets are going to play a game of basketball that counts.
Tonight the Milwaukee Bucks come to Houston for a nationally televised game on TNT. It’s the season opener for both teams, (with the other two yet-to-play clubs being the Warriors and the Hawks) so expect an intense contest.
Will Mike Budenholzer employ a weird defense? Will Budenholzer act like every single play is his last moment on earth, so he might as well wring everything possible out of it?
Will Mike D’Antoni, by contrast, wryly look upon proceedings as if he’s directing grown men playing a child’s game?
Will Russell Westbrook play RocketBall?
Will there be moaning about Giannis Antetokounmpo and injustice?
Will people complain about the way the Rockets play without waiting to find out whether or not they’re playing the same way as last year?
How much China will be involved? Will it be mentioned in the first quarter? Will Daryl Morey be cast as a villain for exercising his rights as an American, while also endangering the NBA, and Lebron’s, cash flow?
Will people wonder if the Rockets’ color scheme will ever settle down?
I think we can safely say yes to at least four of those.
