The Hawks requested waivers for the third-year big man on Monday and would have gone into free agency if a team did not claim him.
Davis, 22, played in just nine games for the Hawks this season as a ten-day contract signee in March. Last offseason, Davis signed with the Warriors and played with the team’s G-League affiliate in Santa Cruz for most of the season.
The bulk of Davis’s career has been spent in Memphis and he was a regular contributor for the 2017-18 team, playing in 62 games.
With no picks in the upcoming draft, the Rockets are looking to stockpile on potential — and Davis is an option for the team.
He will likely receive an opportunity on the Summer League squad and play a decent amount of minutes to help him earn a spot on the roster come October.
Welcome to Houston, Deyonta!
